Halloween - Haunted Atom?

Posted by: Atom/Iota/Kan Stands on 31 October 2018

This afternoon my Atom has been switching itself on, re-booting, playing the last played radio station and switching itself off again - so far it has happened 4 times with 10 - 15 minute intervals, though at least once I switched it off myself...

I went into the app and tried to play Tidal, but that was logged out and would not let me log in...

I then opened Tidal on my Mac as I realised that it is paid for by a credit card that I lost and replaced.  I updated the card (though the next due date is 11/11), then went into the Naim app and was able to login to Tidal.

So far the Atom has not switched itself on again, but it does seem a bit weird, even at this time of year.

Any thoughts?  Is this what Tidal does to your equipment of you don't pay?  Or is this the ghost of LP12s past!?

Just happened again!  "Click" but now it is completely dead - won't switch on, pulled the plug out, put it back in - dead!

Dealer?

Completely unplugged it all, took it to a different socket (was in an extension lead) and now it has started - thank goodness.   Looks like I have to re-site it, without the extension!  Will probably sound better too!

Glad it's not dead anyway.

I wonder if there is a fault in that mains lead, or the socket it was connected to. Maybe a loose connection? If not, maybe wave some garlic at it, otherwise it’s probably back to the dealers if it happens again.

I had the Atom plugged into a B&Q extension lead - clearly not a good idea, luckily the extension lead is fried not the Atom.

I have re-sited the Atom, I had to try 2 places, but it is now good.   In the the other place the sound was 'small', I can't explain why, but I now have it on a stand, plugged directly into the wall and and it sounding sweet and tuneful again.

Playing Art Pepper meets The Rhythm Section, that pipe is like it's on hot coals, nimble and jiving all over the place, the brush drumsticks are sliding all over those skins....  but most important of all the music is so engaging...  Wonderful....

Can't wait to hear some expansive Naim boxes tomorrow in at the Audio Show East.

"Can't wait to hear some expansive Naim boxes tomorrow in at Audio Show East"

I hadn't thought of Naim as specifically expansive before, but it's an interesting concept and perhaps less intimidating than expensive!

Actually David, it was a typo, but your comment made me smile!

Yesterday's show was good and very worthwhile, but it only really gave me a glimpse of what is possible.  Further listening to more familiar music, in a more realistic room/setting will I am sure reveal what is possible and the differences and VFM between different equipment.

Really like the ATC and Russell K speakers.

Hi Tony

Yes I knew it was a typo, but I never let go an opportunity to raise a smile!

Glad you enjoyed yourself. It was a bit too far for me to travel. Signals is an exceptional dealer.
