NAC272 streaming Synology NAS
Posted by: Pat on 09 November 2018
just received my brand new NAC272 in replacement of Uniti. Sounds great with NAP200.
Unfortunately the streaming of my music stored on Synology NAS is not possible.
The music plays for a few seconds stops and restarts after to stop again.
strange wise the streaming works with a QB located next room and a Sonoro streamer.
Did anyone experience the same issue and better solve it ??
Tks
Have you reset everything? Router in particular. Had an NDX a few years ago that would not connect to Synology out of the box and that cured it.
Do you have a wired ethernet connection in to the 272 or are you using wifi?
I previously owned a Unitilite which I tried to stream to using wifi and for me it was exactly as you describe. The only proper solution was a wired connection using the router and a switch and of course extra ethernet cable.
Others may have alternative suggestions.
I hope you get it streaming properly soon it's a great piece of kit.

Yes did reset entirely all devices after initial setting. Did not solve the issue.
I am using WiFi connection.
If I streaming music with QB and switch multiroom mode the music plays in NAC272 without any trouble.

Although it seems odd that the 272 will play multiroom, but not directly from the NAS, you should check the buffer level on the front panel. If you see the buffer empty, then musuc stops until it’s full again, the WiFi connection is likely the cause. These older generation Naim streamers did not have the best WiFi modules, and an Ethernet cable is nearly always the better option.
It does sound like the Wifi connection, but all things being equal that should be totally fine.. can you check the Wifi signal quality near your 272? Also does the stop/start behaviour still occur when nothing else is playing from the media server?
As Chris says Naim’s Wifi implementation has almost certainly improved in the more recent products.. Wifi really should be the natural medium for domestic streaming connectivity.
I have the same combination...
Synology 112j (very low power, small memory, and an old design)
272 (but with a 555 and a 300DR)
Android 6.01 phone & Android 5.1 tablet
However my system is hard wired rather (for reliability), than trying to rely on the vagaries of WiFi from a cheap ISP supplied WiFi Router.
I also had this problem at one time, and it was due to the Naim app on the tablet. In my case deleting and reinstalling the App then restarting the network components fixed it:
Turn all the network components off, then restart the router, wait for it to boot then restart the NAS, wait that to boot then restart the 272, and finally restart the App.
Wifi does not seem to be the issue as the streaming in multiroom mode will work.
Internet radio and Spotify do play fine !
The source of the trouble may be located elsewhere ?
I think you have a problem with your wifi. Mp3 works! Spotify, interntradio and multiroom works with mp3. The music that you would like to play from your NAS will be higher quality!
