Where do you put your LP12 lid when playing records?

At the risk of starting the most trivial thread of the year I’d love to know if anyone has any novel, innovative solutions for what to do with your record players’ Perspex lid when you are playing vinyl. I’m sure most of us use the lid whilst not in use to keep out dust, but also know we get best sound with the lid off when playing. I find myself at a loss where to put it so it’s safe and the room remains uncluttered during listening. Anyone?
I owned an LP12 for about thirty years, and always played it with the lid closed. If you must remove it, put it where you wish. In the fridge. In the garden. On a chair. On the floor. The world is your oyster.

Told you it was a trivial thread! On and closed is fine and better than on and up, but I reckon I can hear better music with it removed. I’ve plenty of places to plonk it down of course. Looking for any neater solutions..

i tend to place it on a little 'coffee table' in front of the power amp rack -- and then I use it as container for the record sleeves of the LP's that I happen to be playing at the time. With my ARO arm, I needed to adjust the finger lift down quite a bit to allow me to play with the lid closed and without the lid pressing on the arm (!!!!) and potentially ruining the cartridge.
But I guess in my case, my listening room is on my office so don't have too many constraints as far as this sort of issue is concerned -- I suspect if my system was in our lounge -- my bossy daughter would look at me and roll her eyes in dis-approval...
enjoy/ken
I use a Roksan TMS rather than an LP12, the lid sits on top of my NDX when I’m playing a record. Like Ken I use it as a holder for the sleeve of the album.

No less trivial than 99.9% of the other posts on this forum Kevin. Mine only rests on top of LP12 whilst not in use reengaging the hinges all the time is too much hassle and yes I do prefer it with the lid removed whilst a record is playing. As for where to place it on the floor I'm afraid.

I tried that too Bob. Once. Of course, the next time I went to okay a record I forget it wasn’t attached and nearly totalled my cartridge! It stays on and in the slots, or off, from now on...
I keep the lid open when the lp12 is playing and closed when I do not use it
Me too ...either open or thrown on a chair...cannot close and play with the Aro
Under the sideboard. I always engage the hinges when putting it back on the deck, too risky if it gets nudged.
I tried many years ago and "off " is definitely best followed by "on". Up is yeuch ????
There seems to be three schools of thought on this. Lid closed, open or removed. Personally makes no difference to me. Cloth ears?
If you constantly remove the lid there is a chance one of the hinges will fall of and get lost somewhere. Usually not easy located either in my case.
Number one priority. Cartridge cantilever preservation.

I know what you mean but those springy hinges can be dangerous too.
You could use it to put your pizza in while listening to your music. It would keep the crumbs out of your listening chair too
Open when playing and closed all other times.
Get a Rega RP10 instead and don’t worry about the lid at all .... on/off.... up/down...... no more worries at all because the outer plinth and lid don’t touch the turntable at at - cool design
You could always bin the lid and use a bin liner (not the one containing the lid) as a great dust sheet for the Linn turntable.... just another exciting option
Are you guys all been serious?
I mean...We all know the best sound from the LP12 comes with the lid at 45 degrees and with duct tape around the left interconnect from the phono pre-amp
On the other settee, though I don’t have a Linn and it’s a cover that rests on the fraim lite shelf the deck sits on when in use, not a lid. That settee sits in front of a bay window, behind it is a plant in a stand and two spare dining chairs that are only needed as such when the dining table is at full expansion, one of these is used for the lid if the second settee is needed for sitting on and records need to be played.
I had a disaster with my lid there is a white rug in front of the system and the lid was on the rug.Which makes the lid transparent.Forgot about the lid and stood on it making a crack in the perspex.Nothing to make it a right off but still very annoying.New lid at local dealers was £150.Can live with the crack for the time being but will get a new lid at some point.
Always enjoy it more with lid off.
Stressful day at work. Idiots on the road. No milk in the fridge. Boiler packing up. Radiators need bleeding ? Just unhinge yourself even more by flipping your lid.
I leave mine up except that the hinges are dodgy, and if it feels like it won't stay up I take it off and leave it on the floor, propped against the wall.
i remove the lid when playing rather than leaving up, just habit and when finished for the weekend the lid gets replaced just in case
Conveniently, the 16th-century builders of our old cottage made a couple of holes in an adjacent beam, just right for a couple of pegs to hold my LP12 lid. I guess the record players they had back in those days must have had lids too (although I suspect they only had moving magnet cartridges). Only put the lid on if I'm fiddling about near the deck.
The hinge's broke on mine so for many, many months it was used with the lid off. Had it serviced but no hinge replacement. After servicing the music was terrific, very plesently surprised as I didn't realise how much out of tune the LP12 was. Eventually decided to have hinges replaced with Linn originals and started playing with the lid down, open and totally removed. Did I hear a difference? No, I don't think so. I seem to remember that many years ago when LPs were king and CDs just also rans, (I was into hi-fi before CDs were a twinkle in Philips and Sony's eye) it was suggested that the LP12 was designed to be used with the lid down, may be to do with acoustic feedback. Just my 2 pence worth. Rich
This did make me chuckle
As trivial as it seems I completely understand. I place mine out of sight as it looks messy propped up against the wall, and I always remove it whilst playing a record. I keep it out of the way as I worry i'll forget it's on the floor and give it a kick whilst walking back to change the record!
Gotta be off for best SQ. I got fed up with fiddling the hinges in and out of the brackets a long time ago and removed them (from the lid), so it simply sits on the deck when not in use and is easily lifted off.
Clearly this may not be practical with animals or zealous cleansing operatives in residence.
