There's lots of helpful advice on this issue in an earlier topic from 12/21/14, now closed, which nearly fixed the problem for me.
The issue was that on the Streamer Updater I did not get the "SLAB_USBtoUART" option in the dropdown.
I have an iMac, and had been logged in as a lower-level username rather than as the Administrator level log-in. Despite inputting the iMac Administrator username and password when prompted during the software instal process I couldn't see the "SLAB_USBtoUART" option. When I logged in at Administrator level it and tried again it magically appeared.

Essentially you have two accounts running on your Mac - yours and admin. If it’s your rivate Mac, that is an odd setup.
Changes made under one account, will really show up under the other one. However you can modify your regular user priviledges, by loging in as admin and granting ‘rights’ to yourself
Or just run the update process as an administrator. Your streamer will not care where it gets the files from.
Good luck,
Adam

Hi Adam,
Thanks - I had fixed the problem before posting to the forum, I just wanted to pass on the info in case anyone else was having the same issue due to not being logged into an iMac Administrator profile.
By the way, the reasons I have multiple accounts which don't have Admin privileges is a) To stop family members clicking on phishing emails and downloading rogue software.... and b) Because we have B&B guests who can use the same iMac for basic web access only.
Best regards,
Bill
