Naim Nait 5i (italic) vs 5i (Italic mk2)

Is there any difference between 5i and 5i-2?  What is the significance of the designation -2 ?

Thank you.

Mike, James' link above is a good example of why it's well worth searching the forum for answers to some questions first as they have often been asked previously and answered comprehensively.

I read that post Richard but it does not answer my question. I know 5i italic is upgraded over 5i non italic but I am talking about italic vs italic mk 2.

What is the purpose of the dash 2?

It's explained in the linked thread.  There was a NAIT 5i, which arrived in 2003, and then a few years later in 2007 came its successor the NAIT 5i, where the I was italicised, or, as it is sometimes referred to without italics, the NAIT 5i-2.  After that, in 2012 came the current NAIT 5Si.

NAIT 5and NAIT5i-2 and NAIT5i-2 are just different ways people label the same thing.

So many names for the same thing...okay fully understood. Thank you.

And the 5si is a big step up over either of the previous ones ... IMO

... as well as its companion, the cd5si ...

I find the Nait 5si has more digital glare and less flow than the 5i  but fuller bass.

Strange, as I have found that the current NAIT has no hardness or aggression or a grating or a fatiguing sound in any shape or form. Just goes to show how we all hear differently. Personally, i'm glad to get away from the 'old' Naim sound.

I'm surprised you don't mention the Nait 5si2 .
