burning in

hi every one. i have a question. would a denson demagic disc help with burn in time of a system i have just had my ndac and nap200 serviced by naim and have purchased a new nac 282 fed by a hicap olive .i have no idea how long it takes to burn then all in. my source is a cd5sx and a rega p9 tt
I have no idea what a Denson demagic disc is, but the answer is almost certainly not!
???? DAVIE R,....Around 1996-97 I tried "Burn-in" on some CD-players of the same model and brand.
"Burn-in" CD-discs were...
◾ XLO.
◾ Purist Audio Design.
Both were specially developed "Burn -in" discs,..if I remember correctly so cost XLO around £40:-,..and Purist Audio Design around £180:- 1996-97.
◾They said it would all be better, and move faster to "Burn-in" with these CD-discs.
But after different tests,in any case I thought that the result was better to "Burn-in" with regular music.
Does anyone else here have any experience with these "Burn-in" CD-discs.?
Ps:I still have these "Burn-in" discs somewhere.
/Peder ????
Unless the Hi-cap has been serviced recently it is likely to be having a detrimental effect on the sound your new - and newly serviced - components are capable of.
I'd get this remedied before worrying about snake-oil gizmos.......
There’s a Tellurium Q disc that a few people reported on here a few months ago. I didn’t bother to try it, but a search would probably find it if you’re interested.
l svetty. i have had my hicap serviced with my ndac and nap200 and i have a new nac 282 . i have been told it could take 4 weeks to burn in is that right
Don't worry about burn in - just use it and enjoy it. It may have a few ups and downs on the way but nothing to get too concerned about.

I find most kit takes quite a bit longer than 4 weeks to burn in. The ups and downs start off very noticable but the further into burn in you get the less the swings get. How long you will hear the effects is dependant upon how sensitive your ears are and also how meticulous the system has been set up.
While I have the XLO disc mentioned by Peder for many years, I never used the Burn-In tracks. The channel identification and phase tracks are very useful during setup and fine tuning.
Running the CD-Player for days on repeat just never seemed such a good idea. With the disc ripped now, I still don’t use the tracks as this would drive my wife and kids crazy (they are earlier back home).
I had a Densen DeMagic disc many years ago. Not sure it ever did any good that I could hear, but it certainly didn't do my kit any harm.
At the risk of sounding like one of those Hi-Fi Nuts who own more test discs than discs of music, here are the test discs I've got:
- Tellurium Q Cable and System Preparation/Refresh (2014). A very curious-sounding disc, but I do think it does... something good. Not sure I can put my finger on what though.
- Sound Check 2 (1996) by Stephen Court & Alan Parsons. A very interesting listen - their choice of demo tracks and selections of uncompressed master recordings are fascinating. The test tones are good for checking how that age-related hearing loss is coming along and the 'Digital Black' track is good for checking your tweeters are still hissing correctly in good Naim fashion.
- Ultimate Stereo Hearing & Equipment Refresher (2003) by Richard Black. This has got some interesting, if peculiar tracks where the LF is progressively rolled off to tune your ears to HF better (I think). There are some very inventive imaging tests and some cleverly thought out burn-in tracks, including one to shake out the dust from your loudspeaker cones.
None is currently available as far as I know, but keep an eye on the Bay.
Mark (who owns over 300 music discs for every test disc he owns, which he reckons is just about healthy)
The only test disc, rather than burn in, was a free edition of Shure 'Audio Obstacle Course' way, way back. Back to the present, I burnt in my system by leaving the radio section on, there's some rather good iradio stations out there. Alternatively put a wide range cd on. Save the money on test disc with real music. Rich
thank you every one for your comments
I use Tellurium Q system disc regulary and it does make a difference in my system. I also have Densen DeMagic but I don’t experience the same effect.
