When I was a bit younger and fitter I used to unplug everything, pull the DIN and phono plugs in and out. Then the dreaded Burnday and finally the 13 AMP mains leads. Not quite. Take out the fuses, clean them, and tighten the contacts in the plug, or strip back for new wire. Spray compressed air into the DINs etc but with care.
Then get a tin of Duraglit and clean the outside contacts on the 13 amp plugs with new cleaning cloths. They will be filthy. I have reservations on Naim's Powerline cables for this bearing in mind their cost and level of research over say an MK plug.
Did all this housekeeping work? Well yes it did and by some margin and apart from a £2 tin and a bit of effort well worth it.
These days I let my dealer do basic maintenance.
