Europe '72 Volume 2 can now be pre-ordered on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Europe-7...315652623&sr=1-1
No duplicates from the original album, Volume 2 includes a near hour long jam recorded at the Bickershaw Festival that combined "Dark Star" and "The Other One"!
Hopefully soon to be released on the black stuff as well...

Excellent - thanks Hook.
The original Europe '72 is quite amazing' I'm not generally a fan of live album and a live triple was an unusual buy for me in those cash strapped early 70s, but what a fantastic album it was. The Dead are one of the groups that make live albums sound as good as studio albums; by that I mean everything seems so well played - as if they recorded it over and over when they hadn't: they were just that good. Considering the problems some band members had then this is even more remarkable. Nobody else played guitar quite like Jerry Garcia: there is a moment on Anthem of the Sun where I think he achieves the ultimate sound from the electric guitar midway through Alligator.
And of course - Phil Leah is one of the nicest dudes in music as well as being talented.
Wonderful cover too.
All the best, Guy
You are most welcome Guy!
Isn't it amazing to think that these tapes have been hiding for almost 40 years?
Makes me wonder what else is out there...

Hook: I very much appreciate the heads up. A friend of mine had recently sent me a link that directed me to a 73 disc box set that contains all 22 shows, costing around $1,000 !! As much as I love the Dead that was a bit of a stretch for me, so I am delighted to see this disc will soon to be released as no doubt it has the best of the rest.
In fact I saw them on this tour at Wembley and my lasting memory, beyond the music, was I observed Jerry Garcia being so relaxed and chatty with a fan that wanted his autograph. He was a shining star that burnt out way too soon.
Thanks Sootycat! As the kids like to text these days.....OMG!!

73 disks! $450!! Already twice that already on eBay!!!
I guess that answers my question of what else is out there....
Just about every soundboard ever made!
Was just reading about the band's official archive, housed at the University of California Santa Cruz. They have recordings of 2,000+ shows, the vast majority of which have never been officially released.
Personally, I think I am going to stick with the '72 Volume 2 sampler. The Dead will always be my #1 way of traveling down memory lane (I went to a lot of shows between '73 and '85). But now my musical interests have grown much wider. I blame Naim for that, by the way! So many classics, and so much great new music....life is too damn short....and there are still entire genres that I haven't scratched the surface of!
I guess every purchase decision has an opportunity cost, and in this case, and despite how much I love the Dead, that cost is just a little too high for me.

Don't forget England '72

You have to host the picture some where. Otherwise you are the only one to see it.

Thanks everyone for your lists of things to try.
I am sorted.
I am sending a big little Stick (I wish i had a Naim one as they sound better?) to a friend that has most of the Dead albums.
He is going to load it up for me so i can pick and choose where to go with vinyl and CD and download off the board recordings.
Will let you know how i get on.
Again many thanks.
