NDX Spotify workaround
Posted by: AlexWard on 17 September 2011
Not sure if this is obvious to NDX users or not.
I have found that I can connect my iOS device to NDX and play Spotify by doing the following:
- connect and play iTunes song
- press HOME button to cancel
- boot Spotify and voila - Spotify into NDX USB direct.
Streaming over AE did not work well enough for me. USB connection is great though.
Prior to purchasing an Ipod touch recently, I was streaming Spotify via my Xbox 360 directly into my nDac, sound quality was worse than poor.
I now use the Ipod for streaming spotify directly into the nDac via USB with good SQ. I do not have to do a workaround however, I just press the dock button on the nDac.

Having Macs with OS X I've used Nicecast to broadcast Spotify and then receive it with NDX's iRadio.
1) Setup Nicecast to broadcast (Spotify or whatever)
2) Add your fresh pirate radio station into Naim's vtuner site
3) Tune into the added station with NDX
Hi
Just to be clear.
So this means that I can avoid the Squeezebox Receiver+Lavry DAC.
I just need the NDX/ND5 which will find the Logitech Media Server via iPeng and I can then play my music services Spotify, MOG, Pandora, etc?

I am also a Mac User.
I use an Apple TV connected digitally to the NDX
When I want to use Spotify (or any other airplay enabled app) I switch the input on NDX to Apple TV then control Spotify via its app on the iPad
For non-airplay applications I use Airfoil which broadcasts to the Apple TV and then through NDX
1,2,3 resurecting an old one how to stream spotify from my ipad to nac n 172 via usb? It's not working...
thank you Hook. I know that there are some ways to do this with help from additional hardware. For example I could get a dock like the nice one from cambridge audio. And use its digital out. But I hoped that it's somehow possible in a way similar to the one described by AlexWard above.
Hi Olek -
I tried using an Apple Camera Connection Kit (CCK) to feed digital audio to a USB dac, but had very inconsistent results. It would work sometimes, but most of the time it did not. To top it off, the dac I was using, a Centrance DacPort, required more power than the iPad port could provide, so I had to go through a powered USB hub. In any case, I eventually gave up on the project, so sorry, I can't really help here.
Perhaps others who have used the CCK successfully to route the iPad's digital audio output to the Naim NDX can comment. I use an NDS which, unlike the NDX, does not support direct iPod/Pad/Phone connections to its front USB port.
ATB.
