Copying LP's, anyone used a Fubar I-O ADC/DAC?

Hi, I've been faffing around waiting for the 'right time' to put at least some of my vinyl records onto my MacBook, the 'right time' being a DAC/ADC becoming available that sounded good that I could afford - Naim DAC being out of the question money wise for me.  I do have a Uniti, but can't access that DAC for this purpose as it doesn't have a digital out.

So I noticed recently that Russ Andrews were offering the Fubar I-O for just under £200 which they say is aimed at Vina.  Any thoughts on the quality of this or possible better alternatives would be appreciated.  Thanks

Best wishes

What bitrates are you aiming for?

If you are happy at CD rates 16/44.1 then, IMHO, the easiest option is a CD-Recorder, onto Audio CD-R/W and then rip that and re-use the disc.

I pratted about trying to sort out a consistent link to a PC, and then had one of those "D'Oh!!" moments when someone suggested a recorder.

Hardly more involved that using an old cassette deck, and you don't have to involve the PC until after you have done the recording.

I agree with John

However, if you want to go direct to Mac from your Super-Line or similar then I'd use a Roland Edirol UA-1EX (Click here) unless you'd prefer to pay the extra for a Russ Abbott Andrews device

Thanks John and Guido, very helpful. I don't have access to a Cd recorder, so have checked out the Roland Edirol as suggested by Guido.  It says that it has limited compatibility with the latest OSX Lion 10.7, but what compatibility it has seems fine for my purposes.

The Roland Edirol device is good for the money. Other alternatives are Beringer UCA202 or going direct to a sound card.

If you are willing to spend upto £200 as per the FireStone Audio device then a good device (higher quality sound) would be the EMu 0204 and 0404 USB devices. I think these would be a step up in quality. You could also record at 24/96 which will give you a little future proofing. The biggest "expense" in transcribing vinyl is in time so best to do it to a high quality to begin.

PS. Sorry I missed you said using a MacBook; Mac OS X is only partly supported with the EMu devices. Something like TC Konnect 6 may be more appropriate. Generally though you'll get better results for your money with "Pro-audio" recording devices than consumer device such as the Firestone Audio.
