Uniti Qute Trials

Posted by: NickSeattle on 26 September 2011

Can anybody provide the link to Guy's four-scenario test of the Qute, between May and August 2011?  It was very interesting.  I am tired of failed "Advanced" searches.

Thank you.

Hi, Guy

Thank you.  That is not it, but I will be updating my thread soon.  Second try with the DAC tomorrow!  I thought you ended up liking the UQ wireless, better than wired?  Am I confused?

Nick did you ever report on a comparison of CD5 with and w/o nDAC?

We had listened to several hours of music on the CD5 XS as is, and when I connected it to the nDAC we were immediately impressed with the difference.

Hi Nick

That wasn't me. I've got my UQ wired. It is about a yard away from my Juniper router which gives me network access. I use a Sonus bridge and Wired 4 Sound Sonus ZP90 to feed my Naim DAC for my main system: that's wireless (between Bridge and ZP90) - that is out necessity rather than preference, as my house is not wired beyond my home office,

My Juniper firewall/IPS/router/switch has a Sonus Bridge, Apple Airport Extreme for iPad and ATV and laptop access, my Apple music server, Vortexbox and Naim UQ. The UQ is the only network aware kit I have from Naim (I doubt that will change any time soon as I like the Sonus interface and the sheer versatility of the Vortexbox - the NDX etc are not for me: too expensive).

The VB feeds the UQ through Ethernet. The Apple music server via MF V-Link to S/PDIF. I'm very unsure which method gives the best results. I prefer the iTunes interface, but the VB is so quiet. True the Apple in an antique by computer standards.

I have almost no hi-res music, but can always use a USB stock to play it in my Naim DAC.

I do remember another poster preferred wireless, but can't remember who it was.

All the best, Guy

Hi, Bart, The CD5XS is the first of that line to offer digital out, so not possible with an unhacked CD5X like mine. Tomorrow my dealer will supervise the second shootout, and I will try to give a faithful report. Nick

I think I munged together my memory of your comments re UPnP streaming with the other thread.  I will update the thread you referenced after the demo tonight.

Thanks again.
