How many copies do you need?

If you have a vinyl record or CD or both of the same album then do you also have the SHM, MFSL, Xth Anniversary Deluxe box set? Or do you just keep the pressing/print you like best.

Life used to be easy, you just went to the shop and bought the latest <insert name here> album, took it home, stuck it on the LP12 and enjoyed it, but now .........

I can't keep pace anymore; can't digital music just be FLAC or AIFF downloads with free/subscription upgrades when they fix the bugs (re-master) and release the better version.

And can ELO reissue their complete collection with much better SQ - please?

ELO SQ is all over the place.  And that's just it, one of the reasons why I have so many different issues/pressings of the same albums.  In fact, one of my most recent purchases was a double gatefold dutch issue that combined the first and second albums together.  It was cheap, I was expecting much, and already have several copies of the original albums, so why did I buy it?  Partly because it was there, it was early ELO (who I happen to like), and it looked very clean and nicely pressed.  Cueing up one of my favorite ELO tracks, Kuiama, and wow, much less murky sound than on the originals.  Will I now get rid of the the originals?  Don't be daft, they're originals...  etc, etc..

I second that motion!

TBH i never had or heard a really nicely sound engineered ELO album (vinyl or CD).

My 3 x LP box-set of Eldorado - On The Third Day - Face The Music, leaves a lot to be desired in the pressings, vinyl quality, and SQ.

Do they still have the original master tapes?

Is there any hope for us?

I have the Steve Hoffman version of Eldorado which I really like, but there is still a feeling it should have been even better. The others are just the normal ones. Except for Balance of Power where I got hold of a Japanese re-master that left a lot to be desired

It is a shame as ELO made some of the most consistently good albums.

If find any gems I'll post them

My original vinyl copy of "Out of the Blue" sounds very good.

The WNPS had a wonderful session at Tony's a year or two back comparing various vinyl editions of Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left.

Whether this exercise was an exhibition of anal behaviour or not I can't say.  What I can say, though, is that we really enjoyed hearing the differences between '70s bog standard, Simply Vinyl, Australian, and other heavy virgin vinyl editions.  But none of us was SO anal as to say 'I've got to rush out and buy x' in addition to y (and z) we already had.

There is, I grant, more of a temptation with a really poorly produced LP or CD, with the hope springing eternal that some new version will be better, but the number of times they are significantly better seems quite rare, and quite often they're worse!

I would love a really well-produced Genesis Second's Out though...

Yes please! I have four different CD pressings of this - Japanese Black Triangle, UK Original, Definitive Edition Remaster and the recent remasterings. Stu will disagree with me but I prefer the Definitive Edition Remaster of the bunch.

And as for a snap, crackle and pop free piece of vinyl, that would be a pleasure.

I will play my snap crackle free vinyl later.

Its got to hot here again for playing vinyl.
