NDX on GIgabit Router

Posted by: thebigfredc on 07 October 2011

Hi

When I first connected the NDX to my Netgear router the light for the port glowed green.

Recently though, it stays at amber which, according to the Netgear manual, means it is working at a speed slower than  gigabit.

I havetried reboots and have looked at the settings of both NDX and router which seem ok. I suppose I am worried that my system may somehow be performing a little below par.

Any advice from technophiles welcomed.

Hello Ray

Nothing to worry about. The NDX connects at a max: of 100Mbps which is plenty fast enough for transfer of your music, thus your router light is indicating this speed. When you connect a Gigabit capable appliance to a port the light will change to indicate the new connection speed.

The NDX does not have a Gigabit network port so it will connect at 100mbits/sec...

Cheers

Hi Peter

Thank you for the reassuring reply. The world of streaming is a bit of a journey of discovery so it's  good to know I am not doing anything fundamentally wrong.

The color coding for the router's port speed is likely what threw you off–no idea why there cannot exist a standard for port labeling, to be honest!
