CDX & PS both powered?

Posted by: Martin Payne on 19 September 2000

I'm pretty sure I remember a comment from Mark Tucker on the previous conference that the internal PS inside a CDX could be left powered up whilst an XPS (or in my case a CDS-PS) is connected.

I would like to try this so that I can compare a warmed-up CDX against a warmed-up CDX/CDS-PS.

Can someone confirm if this is safe to do? I'll obviously power down briefly whilst connecting/disconnecting.

cheers, Martin

Assuming that a CDX is the same as the rest of Naim gear, having both powered up while the PS was connected would be a big problem.

Equipment doesn't cool off that quickly. The small amount that you lose if it's off for a minute or so is quite small. Therefore, have the PS turned on, but not connected to the CDX. Test the CDX under its own power, then unplug it and try it with the PS. This will give you a sufficient comparison.

If it's anything like my tests of a CDX versus a CDX/XPS using, the difference will be huge! Catch you later!
