Starting tomorrow, January 8th, the long awaited
documentary "Jazz" by Ken Burns will premiere on
PBS. Ken Burns is the guy who did the
documentaries on the U.S. civil war and
"Baseball". The bad news is that it can only be
viewed on television in the U.S.(and some Canadian markets). The good news is that it will be
simulcast on my local radio station WDET(and on the net at WDET), Monday through Friday, at 7PM EST. Even better news is that Ed Love, who will be featured in the documentary, will interview Ken Burns Monday after the first installment. WDET will also re-run some of Ed's "Evolution of Jazz" programs which ran for about eight years in the US. For those who wish an ongoing lesson in Jazz, listen to "Ed Love" at the same above time and days after the documentary is over. Ed also has on his homepage at the same above address an infrequently updated list of great new jazz releases (and re-releases).

Happy Listening (and Viewing),
Ron The Mon
