Great movie alert

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is superb. Magnificent acting, breathtaking cinematography, gripping story, evocative and realistic atmosphere - it's a true example of movies they don't make 'em like anymore.

Yes, it's a stirring epic, but it's also a powerful psychological portrait spiced with a haunting sense of mystery (the French ship they're chasing/being chased by).

The soundtrack's not bad either, featuring young up and comers such as Mozart, Vaughn Williams and Boccherini.

See it on the big screen. You won't be sorry.

I see you share your idol's sense of modesty, too, Alan.

Yes - I went to see this Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed it! Think they'll make more in this series? I think there are about 20 of these books in the wings.

Well it can't be any worse than Matrix Revolutions, which was just dire. Any film critic recommending that film must surely be in the pay of Warners, or a very sad and deluded fanboy.
I will check out Master and Commander, but I'm not sure I'm up for 19 sequels!
