Component Cable lengtht

Posted by: Jerryl on 19 September 2005

I will be reorganizing my room and will need to run a lengthy Component Cable from my Satellite receiver to Hitachi Plasma, my estimated length is approximately 8 meters. Will I loose quality because of the length?

Not with a good quality cable. 75ohm video signals are specc'ed to run 75m (I used to work on the fringes Broadcast TV), you can run them further but you need to apply a line driver and some form of equalisation at the other end.

The quality of cable really counts though, you should be using decent screened cables, with seperate cables for R, G and B, not some thin bundled jobby.

Hope that helps

Should be cool Jerry, so long as you use quality cable as Mr P suggests...

Not quite the same but we've ran s-video for over 10m behind the walls in our Den and there is no visible loss of picture quality....

Go for it!

I am running a 6 meter component cable out of a component switcher (3 in 1 out) in my system with no problems ... PQ is excellent.
