Min. screen size for HDTV

I've heard rumours that this is 26": does anyone know if this is definitely true? (It's a factor in selecting a new LCD for the living room)!

For a 16:9 aspect screen, you should shoot for 42" (for long-term purchase) unless the width of your room (the wall onto which you'll place the TV) is 8' or less, at which point a 35"/36" screen at a suitable height shall do.

I'm not convinced that 23" or 26" screens are worth the money unless you're sitting right on top of them (say, less than six feet away). At this distance, hi-res screens tend to be VERY fatiguing for recreational viewing, and you may start to resolve individual pixel boundaries...

CRTs are a different story, though, in the smaller sizes, and might be more suitable, especially a small direct-view CRT.
