AV Remote Control Fails to respond - or sluggish response.

REMOTE RESET PROCEDURES:-

We have received back a few n-Vis/DVD5s for repair where the faults have been reported but no fault has been found. Normally the fault is described as the unit not responding to remote control or behaving erratically from remote inputs.

What may have happened is that through a complex sequence of button pushes there is a small chance that the remote code set of either the handset or the n-Vi/DVD5 may have been inadvertently changed. To return the code sets to default you should follow these procedures:

To just reset the remote itself:-

- Try this before proceeding any further,
- AV unit does not need to be powered up for this procedure

a) - press white DVD button on remote once

b) - press and hold SUBT and OPEN buttons simultaneously

c) - with OPEN and SUBT held, press 1

d) - press white AV button on remote once

e) - press and hold SUBT and OPEN buttons simultaneously

f) - with OPEN and SUBT held, press 1

Now try the remote functions with the AV unit and also try to bring up setup menu on screen with remote setup button.

To reset the DVD5 and remote control system codes:

- first try the remote reset at the top of this page to see if this cures the problem

a) - Power up DVD5 from standby (with drawer closed)

b) - press white DVD button on remote once

c) - press and hold SUBT and OPEN buttons simultaneously

d) - with OPEN and SUBT held, press 1

- the decimal point will light briefly in the bottom right of the front panel, to note that code is accepted

Now try the remote functions and also try to bring up setup menu on screen with remote setup button.

To reset the n-Vi and remote control system codes:

- first try remote reset at the top of this page first to see if this cures the remote problem

a) - Power up n-Vi to disc input, open drawer
b) - press white DVD button on remote once
c) - press and hold SUBT and OPEN buttons simultaneously
d) - with OPEN and SUBT held, press 1
n-Vi front panel will now show briefly that the DVD system code has been returned to 25
e) - press white AV button on remote once
f) - press and hold SUBT and OPEN buttons simultaneously
g) - with OPEN and SUBT held, press 1
n-Vi front panel will now show briefly that the AV system code has been returned to 27

Now try the remote functions and also try to bring up setup menu on screen with remote setup button.

Loewe TV users with remote code interference issues please note:-

Users with Loewe TVs, where the codes have had to be changed to avoid conflicts, should follow the above procedure and then make the necessary code changes to avoid the conflict as follows;

a) - open the drawer
b) - select the AV or DVD page on the remote control
c) - hold down OPEN, SUBT and a number button (1-5)
- the front panel will display the new code. Both the remote and n-Vi will retain this new system code even when power cycled.

It is usually the AV system code that interferes with Loewe TV so try changing this one first.

There is another possible issue, that manifests itself as a sluggish remote response.

We have found that certain makes/models of LCD/Plasma screen cause interference with our remote controls and AV products. This seems to be linked with the 32khz refresh rate of the screens when using progressive modes and the 36khz Philips RC5 frequencies.

This manifests itself as very sluggish remote control response on the player setup/disc menus - often requiring repeated remote button presses to move cursors on screen by one level.

Re-orienting the units may help reduce or even remove this issue. Bear these points in mind when setting up systems containing these devices:-

We have found that if the screen is facing the units, it tends to be more problematic
Minor re-orientation may cure the problem, such as moving the unit slightly further back on the shelf.
Obviously this effect will vary - dependant on room design/setup

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Turn off any other remote controlled equiptment in the room at the mains socket, when changing system codes on Naim equipment, specifically TV screens/panels.

(If this step is not taken, you may end up putting your screen in to a test mode or even change the language inadvertently!)
