Sony 42" Plasma

just seen an advert for one of the above for £1500 plus a load of surround sound stuff and a DVD player. - What is the reputation of the Sony Plasma screen. I guess it is an end of run promotion

They have an OK reputation, but the best deals at the moment are for the outgoing Panasonic models. You could get a 42PW7 with a couple of input boards for £1300 or so, it will comfortably outperform the Sony.

Thanks - with HD on the horizon it is possibly of limited lust value

Hi Derek,

I have not seen many favourable reviews on Sony Plasma screens. Also, just because a screen has a HD badge does not mean it plays HD well, and also does not mean it will play SD stuff any better than a good SD plamsa. I'd stick with Pioneer, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Hitachi (I think it's a rebadged Fujitsu) etc.. I know of no one that recommends Sony. For my money, I'd forget the thrown in souround sound gadgets and buy a screen on it's own merits. There must after all be a reason why they are trying to give them away!
