Is eight the real magic number

Posted by: Steve Hall on 08 April 2001

Was having a 'dip my tow in' listening session yesterday, where I just throw a dozen or so CD's at my CDX and play my favourite tracks.

Wieredly, track 8 more often than not, seams to be my favourite track.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is it a record industry mind trick?

Anyone else got a favourite track number?

What a curious thread, Steve ...

But yes, actually. I think it's got something to do with the way your average pop album of 10 to 12 tracks is arranged, and in the days when vinyl was still the source of choice for all, this was probably even more evident since you had two sides to consider. With me, especially in the eighties and early nineties, favoured tracks would often be number 7 and the last one.

Hah - any prog rock fanatics care to answer this one (hmmm, one or two, one or two ...?)?
