What is Sky HD in digital compression?

Is it 16bit 44.1kHz?

The nDAC certainly doesn't perceive high definition.  And it's never recognised by the nVi as DTS (whatever that means).

And now 4k transmission is coming, will sound also improve?

Not if its run from an optical cable !   Might be if a digital RCA from the skybox is used as most 4K tv's only have digital output on HDMI and optical.   Not sure aswell if the new Skybox Q Silver has an RCA digital output like my old one !

As I recall, Sky transmissions use MP2 with some HD channels using AC3 / Dolby Digital.  In most cases the compressed audio is decoded prior to the digital output so that it's compatible with DACs supporting only PCM.  If you have your Sky HD box connected to your nVi then you can set it to output Dolby Digital which the nVi can decode (though the nDAC won't).
