Yes, and when I once made such a request on that thread I got thouroughly abused for it!

I have dipped in from time to time (and even posted once or twice), and it can be a useful resource - but all too often is is like a market stall collection of unsorted records, all jumbled up with nothing to give clues unless you recognise them, which prevents it being the great resource it otherwise could be.

so, I recommend +100 points should be awarded for everyone posting as per the thread title!

Maybe better to have 2 threads, this one fitting the title, and another Fir the random picture posters, where people can spend their time browsing and looking up elsewhere...

The picture one could then score forum points on the number of album covers posted in some unit of time...

Sounds like several hours of pure heaven to me, and the clues are there, but it takes time and effort to research (who produced it, guest musicians, prior releases, record label, etc)  lMH0 same applies with the thread (see Winky's comment above) .

lf l ever wrote a rude response to anyone who asked a reasonable question (outside of sound quality) about a recording l posted, l apologize.  l generally do not respond to self-proclaimed golden ears.  lf someone doesn't like the sound of something l posted, not my problem.

Try to tell me what/how to post or how the thread should run, uh, no thanks.  Back to the music.

Sounds like heaven to me as well Jeff. I used to buy imports from a US company in bulk at one time. All I ever asked them was, what label, who produced and who were the musicians. I found many a good album that way. I also loved nothing more than browsing through racks and racks of album covers in record stores. My good lady used to leave me in some stores browsing literally for almost a full day.

Different people like browsing in different ways - maybe in part it depends on the spare time you have. That aside, quite apart from the fact that the same musicians don’t always produce equally good music in different bands, and record labels don’t ensure consistenty likeable music, plain album cover posts rarely reveal the musicians, and often not the record label!

l would be pleased to tell you what l think of "the points", but then we would just be back to your needs, as apparently points are important to you.  Not my problem, one thread works fine for me.

The people on the listening thread are some of the best on this forum lM0 because we don't demand things from each other.  We just share.

l could start a thread for people whose personal needs aren't being met if you/they need me to.  Let me know. l wouldn't be contributing, perhaps that is attractive to some.  Demand what ever you need there to your hearts content.

It was not I who raised the issue of comments on the “what are you listening to and why would anyone be interested” thread,,,  As for sharing, the suggestion was that it would be helpful to follow the spirit of the thread’s name and share some information, scarecely demanding as you put it. If you don’t want to be helpful to those who don’t find just album covers useful, then that of course is your prerogative. My suggestion of another thread was for those who only want to share pictures, which could be called “what are you listening to? Post pic here”.  However given the attitude of your response, so reminiscent of the attitude I first encountered when I originally sampled the  thread, i guess this will fall on uninterested ears, in which case please regard the topic as closed as I will as of this moment.

Regarding points, the topic of this thread is community rank, my mentioning points being a return to the subject - I don’t know why you think it is anything to do with any needs of mine,

Posting for others to see what you are listening to, is unquestionably tied up with some psychological aspects.  Can make the listening more of an experience.   Imagine some superstar DJ being paid a few hundred thousand to play, and only one or two dancing with everyone moving on somewhere else - they would no doubt feel upset and put any old rubbish on.   Not that I personally have the same needs as a superstar DJ..

Yes, if it is posting to show other what you’re listening to: the same as Facebook or Roon “share with friends” - some people seem to have a need or desire to do so. But that is the opposite of the DJ ‘kick’, the same as any entertainer, where it is the feedback that gives the kick rather than the sharing...  Though a “superstar” DJ being paid huge sums is primarily doing it for the money, even more so if on the radio when they are playing to an invisible silent audience, but knowing they are getting paid for it! Even as when I played as a small time rock DJ decades ago, when it engaged the audience it made it more enjoyable (though I was enjoying anyway as I was playing music I liked as loud as I liked and getting paid for it!) .

Just one more observation on the merits of at least saying something rather than just posting a picture: there are some members of the forum who are poorly sighted, and rely on software that vocalises text to be able to “see” posts - and that doesn’t work with pictures. At least one such music lover has previously made a plea on the “what are you listening to” thread for that very reason.

There is also that "otherness" that has intrigued the greatest creative minds since time immemorial.

that accountability of others interpretation of ones sense of self disposition.   I am often reminding my other half - who has spent most of her life believing she can read people's minds - and then get upset when others don't reciprocate..

There should be penalty points deducted from anyone who posts on the 'What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested?' thread and fails to answer the question.

Also, for people who like to criticise the thread but never bother to post anything in there either!

Touché! You are right, it's been some time since I posted anything there - I think because I rarely find the long unqualified lists to be a source of inspiration, so I don't really look in there myself. If others do, of course that's great, but I will refrain from droning on any further, for fear of slipping into the realms of verbosity

I miss that experience. In the pre or early online time I got all my music by exploring in specialist cd stores. It was always a huge pleasure to go through a big collection and finding stuff in the store by accident, listening it and getting to an emotional bond with the music. So much different from today search for the lowest price on internet, getting it by post or getting it by kicking the download button. But perhaps these are only sentiments from my generation and before.

If we consider the quality and insights in the posts of Dark Bear he deserves to be much higher on the list (top 10).  Joerand often triggers my listening and buying behavior by his music listening posts. We seem to have some similarity in listening preferences.

#8    Seriously worrying. Counselling probably required. On the other hand, let's think of it as a kind of Care in the Community, stopping fiftysomething blokes falling into bad ways ;-)

This thread really confuses me

Some people are acting as if a high rank is a good sign.....

At this rate of announcement I expect to see myself listed around mid-July.

Not sure I really care as a high rank just says you post a lot,it doesn't say anyting about the usefulness of the postings (and here I'm not saying mine are any more useful than anyone elses).

What I do find interesting is that I don't recall seeing postings by most of the Hot-100 (or however many it is) so where are they posting so frequently ? (Must be where I don't look often, but where's that ? Home Theatre and Padded Cell I guess.)

I only post in Streaming and HiFi sections...

Occasionally look at AV too, but not much happening there.
