One tries not to be too predictable. I also buy what I like, regardless of others saying that the music/cd choice isn't 'in' if you get my drift.

Re the BS CD, I liked both singles so for the price of them bought the album!

Andy,

I notice that you also produce Drum'n'Bass mix albums for Drum'n'Bass Arena.

Definitely a wide remit. Wink

This week...

Matthew Herbert Big Band: Goodbye Swingtime

Birthday present!
Eels: Shooternanny - this had passed me by last year - maybe the best thing I've heard by them
Jim White - Drill a Hole in That Substrate and Tell Me What You See ... I think this will be a grower - traces of Calexico, which can't be a bad thing

Did you catch MHBB on their recent tour with Bugge Wesseltoft? I went to the Brighton date, and it was a superb night. I ordered Goodbye Swingtime on vinyl as soon as I got home, but despite a dispatch note from Boomkat, it's yet to arrive. I have my fingers crossed for today.

No, missed that.Maybe next time..

What's Bugge Wesseltoft like? any recommendations?

Bugge Wesseltoft was introduced as the flipside to MHBB. If Herbert is electronica doing jazz, Bugge is jazz doing electronica. There were 4 of them on stage; a bassist, a percussion and drum machine guy, a DJ, and a keyboardist (Bugge). Much like Herbert, they seemed to get the novel stuff out at the beginning of a tune, and settle into a funky jam. They would make a solid Ninja Tune band, and with a bit of remixing could really have something. I found it a little less successful than The Bad Plus' first album, which I am listening to alot at the moment, in that it wasn't that adventurous. They had a solid groove going on though. It was mentioned that the percussionist and DJ (I think) have a side project, but I didn't catch its name. Their tune was one of the more interesting ones, and I intend to find out more.

BTW, the tour is still going on.

Joss Stone - Soul Sessions, In Australia she has been marketed to the extended of playing whole songs in ad breaks on TV. But boy can she sing.

John Butler Trio, These guys goes off! Excellent.

Black Eyed Peas, light poppy fun but a bit of a let down compared to the raw emotion of the first two albums. I'll have to come back to it in a few months time.

Stereolab – tangerine
Can see myself lying in the sun in Spain, cocktail in hand, this playing in the background, he he.

The Frames – for the birds
At times, brilliant. Not too sure about their excitable, wall-of-sound moments though. (This is listening on my PC btw.)

Teirtur – poetry and aeroplanes

Josh Ritter – hello starling

One for my lady:-
Recovered Treasure - Travelling Wilburys unfortunately I think they should have left it buried. It sounds like my first cassette recordings from a music center. No less than 90% wow and flutter, and hide mike outside studio. Terrible
