Clicking on the Nova.

Odd, and I noticed this before but was not to worried about this. Until now! My Nova when in standby mode makes a clicking sound. The same sound if you turn the Nova on. It seems to be a relais flipping. Happens in a day about fifteen times in average. Nothing else seems to happen. Odd

Round earth. No thank you.

Same thing with my Atom, except that this clicking sound happens even when the unit is operating but only when using the HDMI input.

However, mine will not put itself into stand-by mode neither produce any clicking sound once I deliberately put into stand-by.

I would be careful with the HDMI and if you have issues do not use it. My first Nova went relay mental and then TV was inoperative, for a hour I thought it was dead, disconnected HDMI, unplugged and waited before powering up TV all ok.

That Nova was RMA to Naim, I was advised the HDMI module was faulty.

Since then I have not taken the risk with Hdmi, irritating as it was my secondary purpose for home cinema use.

Ok guys, I get that strange clicking sound (as mentioned above) when my Nova is off more often right now (off = stand by). I have no HDMI connected to the Nova but optical input from the TV. The TV is off meanwhile. I don‘t know what causes the clicking sound of the Nova but I think it is more pronounced when shutting down the Nova with optical Input selected before. I have to confirm that yet. I can eliminate that clicking sound by doing a restart of the Nova.

Does someone have an idea what that clicking sound is (a relay or something) and what effect causes that clicking sound? Thanks a lot!

Hi Gazza, as fred47 described correctly at the beginning of this topic that clicking sound appears while the Nova is in standby mode (= pressing the on/off button on the nova or the remote once and shortly, so no deep sleep mode). It sounds like if you turn the Nova on or off (like a relais flipping sound) and it appears every 30-50s (I have to measure that exactly) until you do a restart of the nova or put it into deep sleep (holding the on/off button for 3s or more).

I have to check what shut down routine causes that returning clicking sound while my Nova is in standby mode, but yesterday and the day before it was after watching TV and turning off the Nova with optical input selected.

Does someone has the same problem or a solution therefore already?

Hi Guys,

Can any of you with this issue drop me an email (to support@naimaudio.com) referencing this thread with the following information...

1) Firmware version of your streamer,

2) Whether it's an Atom, Star or Nova.

3) Whether you are leaving your unit on the HDMI input when you power down your streamer or whether it is on a different input.

4) The make and model of TV that you have connected to your streamer

Then we can see exactly who is getting this and take a look into what's going on...

Thanks

Phil

@fred47 did you already drop Naim an Email? What was the answer and did you already find a solution for that problem?

Arekey,

A full power  dowm and resarting the Nova did the trick and solved the problem completly.

That‘s what I did the last time and the time before. But it always returns sooner or later. So sadly my problem is not solved.

I will send Phil an email with the requested data and will try to figure out for myself what shut down routine causes that recurrent clicking/ relais flipping sound.
