Thanks Eoin. I think I have the same problem as you in terms of space (I have to go up, rather than out, if you know what I mean). I like the look of those and they seem quite good value for money. Cheers!

I really like mine, as a balance someone here, maybe HH, was saying a while back he felt the hifi Racks hadn’t worked well with his Naim kit, as I say I think mine’s great in SQ and looks.

(Although the pictures don’t show it, the rack is actually hidden from the main seating, the room is T-shaped and the hifi and the vinyl is hidden in the right-hand bar of the T, shame really because I think it looks lovely. And as a happy coincidence the rack looks very similar to the bookcases, display cupboard and record cupboard (you can see it next to the rack) which a local furniture company made for the room.))

Gents, I 'd just like to chime in if I may and say that I purchased a base plus 3 shelves option from the Hi Fi Racks Podium range last July and have been very pleased with the upgrade it has afforded my system.I changed from a Stands Unique rack with glass shelving ( this was deemed decent hi fi furniture 20 years ago  ) and like the visual aspect as well as the improvement in sound quality.I also think it looks smart when people have incorparated Naim glass as has been seen in a fair few photos on various threads of late.Could be tempting

Cheers Alan

Thanks Alan. As you can see, I bought mine with tight shelf clearance, but they will supply different height inter-shelf legs on order. So I am also tempted by Fraim glass/Balls, but then I remember my 25 year ago view.

I had 82/Hicap/135s, I listened to 82/Supercap and 52/Supercap, they were definitely upgrades. but it struck me that every evening I spent at home I listened to music solidly, I had no TV and occasionally listened to Radio 4. So I didn’t upgrade, because I wasn't convinced I’d love the music more, and that is what it’s about.  Last week I finally cracked and bought a 1995 Supercap from the auction site, and the main system certainly sounds better, and it’s fun to hear the extras, but am I enjoying the music more?

You have a point, sometimes we should just enjoy the system and spend the money on more music

Yes it was me. I tried a Slimline and it made the music sound leaden. In addition it was impossible to get the legs equally tight but at the same time parallel with the edges of the shelves. I’m sure the larger Podium is better, as the shelves are fitted with spikes, rather than being effectively a solid construction. I’m not convinced that heavy solid oak is a good idea for hifi stands. It does look nice and neat though.

HH, gentle reminder this is the System Pics thread. You could always start a 'Hifi Stands' topic.

I'd be more interested in a 'view from the window' topic!

I think Chris Bell would win that.

I always thought the view in Chris room was a corner picture

A few changes for 2018, the biggest being a surprise addition of a mint pair of SL2’s , all I can say is wow amazing speakers !

I also moved the NDX/XPSDR on and moved to a Hugo with AlloDigiOne & Roon.  The Hugo was a no brainier for me making the NDX a expensive upnp renderer. The Digione and Hugo was it equal for now. Will dem the NDX2 or a s/h NDS later in the year.

Added a Cisco switch and Vodka Streamming cable, minor upgrade but good vfm, in the context of this many black boxes

For now though just getting the SL2 position right (much further from the wall than I expected to tame some boom) and enjoying some amazing tunes.

Congratulations on finding the SL2s. Nice listening room too - very uncluttered.

Very nice system and room.

All I would say is that the LH SL2 is very close to your Fraim, which may be a contributory factor to the boom you heard. But you seemed to have tamed that with moving the speakers out a bit. If boom is still a problem, see if you can move the speakers to the right, although I can see you are contained by the position of the TV.

As an NDS/555DR owner, I would recommend you do indeed try a s/h NDS and you should be able to pick up a bargain when the ND555s start selling and people trade in their NDSs. I would say however that the NDS will only give its best when powered by a 555DR. You could however try an NDS with your XPSDR and if there is a suitable improvement, upgrade to a 555DR later.

Lovely looking set-up, Mort2k, though I must say I think your centre speaker is looking a big saggy

Thanks Nigel.

Yesh the left side is a bit close, need to experiment with them closer together but they are only about 6.5foot now and the listening position need the width really. At the moment they are in the same spot as the SBL, will keep tweaking.

I let both the NDX and XPS go so will have a clean slate when the new streamers are out and can demo for the best options. I agree though the NDS really deserves a 555

Congratulations on finding the SL2s Mort2k! They look mint. Would love to hear the story; where you got them from and how you found the set up but maybe for a separate thread....

Thanks - I will start a thread later more for general info and sharing. I have read your thread from last year it was very informative.

Some new additions since December. The sopras with about 30 hours of meaningful music and a pre loved XP5 XS to start power supply path...

That's just begging to be comfortably sat in front off, with maybe a bit of rug cutting when the boogie starts.

A couple of shots of my humble system

Perhaps I''ll have to try again as the speaker fronts are shaded and it looks as if the grilles are still in situ. The rack is situated to the right, as you look , of the bay window so a nice distance from the speakers.Just noticed that the photo does not show that the Spendor's are actually toed in and there is no bass boom in the room due to their positioning so more than happy with my listening position.

Cheers,Alan

Thanks, thought it would never happen then boom out of nowhere ! Thanks go to a fellow Naim listener for the tip on the location

Still wonder if I should have bought them myself. But having in the last 10 months upgraded from nd5xs to nds, 250 olive to 300 (non dr) and got some used Fraim (still in loft until I work up the energy to pull everything apart and put together) oh and having to replace nVi with some arcam stuff for my new cinema room, and paying for a lot of work on an outbuilding (including creating the cinema room), and being swamped with work so that getting to hear them would have taken quite some time, I needed to pass. May be kicking myself for a long time though...

Hello there. Thanks again 👍🏻 Was not sure if you where on here as well.

Rob

The speakers are 9cm from the wall (cabinet to wall) which is the closest they can be while using SL cables. It’s the same distance they were when using NACA5. The distance between them (the wider wood parts) is 163cm. When I had SL2s previously I had them closer together, but this seems to work fine. The room is only 3.6m wide.

What is the distance between (inside to inside )

I received my additional shelf from Austria the other day, so I had a fun time stripping and cleaning the system and putting it back together again.IMG_20180503_192216IMG_20180503_192339 Its a damn sight easier dressing cables with a bit more height though...

Sounds great, even our cat seems to be enjoying Black Sabbath, looking very curiously at the fine sound emanating from the speakers!

Photos not showing, Chris. Well not to me at least.
