Hi, Just wondering if anyone has bought the Kinks In Mono vinyl box set and would like to share there opinions on pressing, SQ etc Thanks

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh. Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here; http://forums.naimaudio.com/create-topic/content/45070658828583310
Anyone else enjoying this (beautifully packaged) album this week? One of, if not the absolute favourite of their albums for me. The remaster did not grab me straightaway (unlike his work on Benefit which is just astonishingly good I think) but still a fine effort, and plenty of subtleties I am getting that are absent on the original. Just lacks a bit of extra fire and energy maybe but the balance between cleaning up and keeping it fresh and raw is about right I think. The additional tracks...
This is becoming truly depressing, another talented artist gone. Not my kind of music but I always recognised his ability. RIP George

A quick easy look, a reminder of what music arrived this year to the Ronens. Total of 39 CDs, three of which are still on their way, one of them edging the world record for the longest time being in a 'shipped' mode (three months). One album was blues, two classical and the rest were jazz, mostly piano trios. Only four of them were new releases and just two without a piano. The dominant label was Venus Jazz (Japan) with 13 discs and Jan Lundgren was the artist I explored the most with 9...
Car Seat Headrest 'Teens of Denial' sits high up a lot of published 'Best of 2016' lists. I generally buy one or two albums from lists such as these from NPR All Songs or Pitchforkmedia which are a bit out of my usual comfort zone and that certainly applies to this album. It is a loud and energetic indie rock album with very obvious nods to Neutral Milk Hotel, Nirvana (one track possibly breaks the copyright of 'Teen Spirit') and even a bit of Pink Floyd. All done rather well with some...
I think possibly top of the list for me would be a Swedish group called Airbag, which I only discovered at the 2016 Bristol Show at the Naim demo room. The album played was called ' ldentity ' released in 2009 and the track was called 'safe like you' a truly superb track and equally good album. Would be interested to hear about music discoveries other forum members have had during the year?
Hi all, There are some interesting choices here in the Qobuz best of 2016. I'm still finding new music through these 'best of' polls at the end of the year, plus album releases I'd completely forgotten about too - The Getaway by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers for one. Worth a looking through at some of this years highs... http://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/pag...27&e=kevin.hauff @mac.com&l=29_HTML&u=174691&mid=7290575&jb=3
Okay ... its coming to that time of year and once again I'm fed up with a musical diet of mistletoe and wine. So what are your favourite Christmas albums?
As the title really, does anyone know if or when HD versions of The Beatles albums are going to be available? I’ve only got a handful of CD's (Sgt Peppers, White & Revolver) but I’d like to fill the holes in the collection, ideally on FLAC / AIF etc. I was looking at the remastered CD’s on the official Beatles store, but not sure if that’s the best approach for sound quality given their cost?
"Four Seasons in one day"-Crowded House When I hear this song I can imagine Paul McCartney writing this in his "Fool on the Hill" period. Any other non-Beatles Beatle-ey songs out there?
I posted this back in September, now the thread is closed. “I have just watched classic albums recorded on Sky Arts. The feature was DSOTM. I have never owned this and now wonder, is there any received wisdom on which vinyl version, release, pressing is the best for SQ?” I received lots of replies - thanks. Then I bought a Canadian pressing, SMAS-11163 online which was described as excellent. Well it wasn’t and had quite a bit of serious clicks and pops that cleaning would not remove. Then I...
For all Ryan Adams fans - might be worth setting this to record. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-great-songwriters/episode-guide/
I use Qobuz mostly for downloads but occasionally also 7Digital. Almost 3 weeks ago I pre-ordered an album 2 days prior to release and since then have not been able to download it. The purchase was confirmed but I did not get an email on the release date with a link (as normally happens) and the album does not appear in my online collection to listen/download. More troublingly I've now tried three times to contact them, including raising a PayPal complaint with no response apart from...
I noticed earlier that Spotify has automatically created a playlist based on things I listened to over the course of 2016. It's mostly stuff I don't already own (or subsequently bought), so it's not exactly representative in general. But it's still an interesting thing to look at/listen to, to me at least, with half forgotten tracks like the Jimena track from Luke Cage that I've currently got playing. So I thought I'd post it, in the hope that others might do the same. By its nature, all...
Dear forum members, my wife is keeping me on a Classic FM diet. The small kitchen Internet radio is on all day, I wake up with John Rutter and I go to bed with Catherine Jenkins (figuratively speaking, unfortunately); I get home from outside and the Marantz Consolette is playing some choral arrangements of a Christmas classic, all is candlelight, sleigh bells and loving feelings. There's sugar in the air, and at breakfast I just need to keep the mug close to the radio for 10 seconds to have...
Open question to any Classical buffs: since the cessation of publication of both the Gramophone and Penguin Classical guides several years ago I've felt the loss of a valuable resource for finding best recordings or performances of a given piece. Both these guides were UK based and many of the authors worked on both guides. Im curious to know if there are any equivalent authoritative guides available in other Countries? Those two guides were also, rightly or wrongly, sometimes criticised for...
For the Bruce Springsteen fans on the forum, his appearance on Desert Island Discs should prove a fascinating insight into his work. I'll be tuning in or listening to the podcast. Details here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0855znp
I was sceptical about this one, but it's brilliant. 96/24 from HDTracks. David
I've read conflicting reviews about which has the better sound, that is to say, clearer and more detailed. Anyone here know for sure? Thanks.
I was listening to a Nick Drake compilation from Island last night, ripped from CD to Flac, then streamed via Asset. The instruments sounded great but the vocals were quite woolly in places. I'm pretty sure it isn't a system issue as everything else sounds fine, so I am wondering whether it is just my copy of the CD or if it is just the way this compilation was produced. If anyone else has this compilation (IMCD 196/524 007-2) have you noticed a similar problem? Also, has anyone found a good...
Hello, can anyone suggest a good one? Thanks Max
