Looking at the pricing of the initial 2 offerings on the eClassical advent calendar promotion, there may be some very interesting bargains to be had in 24 bit downloads in the coming few weeks.
Just noticed a couple of new features on my iPad app - 320kbps streaming is now available, and you can set a local cache for better stability, up to a couple of hours music can be stored on the local device for uninterrupted streaming in case of...

Hi All Just downloaded Touched 2 from touched.bandcamped.com. Basically you get 255 ambient / electronic tracks in FLAC for a minimum £12 donation to Macmillan. Inevitably the quality is a bit variable but for an old dinosaur like myself I get to listen to bands I've never heard of (and - more importantly - neither has my son!) whilst making a modest contribution to a good cause and driving the wife up the wall (she loathes ambient). What's not to like :-)
Did anyone see this last night? I just watched it on BBc iPlayer. What an enjoyable watch, so much great archive footage. If you haven't seen it, thoroughly recommend it.
I have been spending a lot of time lately listening to this wonderful masterpiece by Franz Schubert. The recording I have is the stereo version by the Vienna Oktett, and I think that it is quite excellent. I have ordered the mono recording,...
Not sure if I can post links but just google his website. I have just ordered mine for Cambridge. Gary
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30216638 A million LPs sold this year... Sounds a lot but back in the heydays they were selling that many in a single day!
Osian Ellis and Desmond DuPres play the Concerto for Harp and Lute [an arrangement of an Organ Concerto by Handel], with the Philomusica Of London. EnjoyI [Inspired by Haim Ronen's post on the Listening Now thread]. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gue-YYXMJrs ATB from George
I'm building up my classical collection albeit it with little knowledge of the subject and I'm currently looking for some soothing pieces of work, the opposite of Vaughan Williams' London Symphony. Any recommendations would be gratefully...
Set to open in 2015 it looks as if yet another company [Technics] is preparing to offer Hi-Res downloads. If the quote is correct they plan to open "with tens of thousands of tracks encoded in 24-bit FLAC'". Will more competition in the Hi-Res download market drive prices down? http://techcrunch.com/2014/11/...ic-download-service/ Disclaimer: I do not work for or have anything to do with Technics whatsoever, merely passing along news.
I remember mine, and thought it was forty years ago. It was almost 41 years ago, when I was only eleven! Here is a scan of the flier. Note the prices. How times have changed. At those prices an LP cost more than going to a concert. A Cd today...
I am not great at labelling genres or indeed describing music but this is a very interesting and different album that one review describes as sitting somewhere between Arvo Part/Gorecki and minimalist soundtrack music...
Friday 28th November. BBC4 TV. Link . John.
Today; I bought the newly released 'Lunatic Soul' CD in my local HMV store. Partly because Amazon's price is £1 more (including free postage), and I could have the product in my hand immediately. Logic and market forces suggest that CD's will to a large extent, bow out in favour of the download. But many of us illogical humans seem to like physical media, so who can accurately predict? Vinyl was supposed to be dead a long time ago, but sales are apparently on the increase. What say you, good...
I was when I saw the release date for this album at What Records. http://www.whatrecords.co.uk/items/58361.htm
If anyone is interested The Boss has now finally cottoned on he can make money from selling his shows on the net (about time to). Link below. http://live.brucespringsteen.net/ Almost forgot to say he is also selling 3 cd...
Excellent documentary tonight. G
Lovely album, nice and laid back sounding. Good recording too!! S.
I have seen some raving reviews on the new Callas mastering. Anybody with experiences on how they compare to earlier versions ?
It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts. from: JackBruce.com
Well they're not Hi-Fi but they have a whole lotta soul! http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/bob-dylan-complete-basement-tapes-bootlegs-released-november-20140826 Chris
Next Monday 17th. 11pm BBC4. John.
hi, interested in forum member opinions of these recording. I recently bought the 1812 Overture CD of the Mercury Living Presence recording, and I was amazed at the realism and musical energy this late 1950s recording on CD had... It sounded more...
For years I have complained internally about purchasing new releases of material previously released because it contains either a better mastering, or, a new live version of a particular track. How do others feel? And am I wrong to feel aggrieved? And...
