My passive SBL’s are 26 years old and still sounding good. They have the Mk2 bass drivers but the rest is original. They still make music sound tangible and present but since getting a 282/250DR I’m more aware of their shortcomings (especially with a digital source). There’s a slight nasality and constraint to voices along with some boxiness or mechanical tonality to the treble, noticeable especially on piano. Secondly one needs to play the SBLs loud. This is the biggest issue. There is just...
Hi All, I sent an email to Naim, but there was no reply, so i think post it here might help. I want to upgrade my SN2 with Hicap, but i am concern about what happened in the past. let me describe the problem I have. I made a stupid mistake when my SN2 got electric hum, came to know that by using wire to link the screw at the bottom of the amp to any of source socket, but the hum still there, so I remove the cover of pre-amp out and power amp in, and place the wire there, suddenly a loud...
Help please! An engineer 'friend' fixed a connection problem with my NAC and kindly 'levelled' the inputs for me while he had it open. As a result I now have the same sensitivity on both DIN and RCA (aux) inputs which makes it unusable for me as: - my Magik DS can hardly be heard even on full volume - my Meridian CD player (2V class A according to the manual) is way overloading all the inputs. It normally plays fins through the AuX/RCA The only info I can find online is that the NAC DIN tape...
Last night for the first time in weeks I had the chance to sit and listen to some music. As I approached my system to insert a CD I noticed my HCDR humming, not unusual, but also my system has developed a buzz from the speakers. It’s low level but audible none the less. It wasn’t present a month ago. The only changes I made a few weeks ago is splitting my system between 2 racks, brawn and brain, placing the napsc on the floor and upgrading my XPS Burndy to an SXPS. I didn’t notice any buzz...
Can anyone tell me what the retail price of the MK1 Intro was in the late 90s? Thanks!
There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about the quality of the headphone amp in the SN2. To get a feel for what works well with the SN2, I was wondering which headphones people are using with it. Please list your headphones and any opinion you have on the headphone amp in the SN2.
Im looking to add a hdd player to my beloved nait 5i. Im reluctant to change the amp and go to the unity. So im looking at a used HDX player which can be had for a bargain at the moment. Is this something that will replace my CD5I Or am i best keeping a dedicated CD player? I have almost a 1000 cds and i dont want to get rid of them. I love the ritual of looking through them and looking at the artwork etc lol same as my vinyl. I just also have 300 aac albums and i dont really want to put...
300dr is it better in the wall socket or power strip . Also any recommendations for speakers for this amp would titan 606 be good.?
I spent yesterday at the National Audio Show here in Warsaw. A really big show with all the top manufacturers represented. A fine assortment of great gear, cheap, expensive and VERY expensive, was on show. Naim showed off their flagship Statement amp (a snip at 120,000 UK pounds - I've ordered two, one for me and one for the missus) played through what appeared to be Grande Utopias (I was at the back of the room !). The Utopias sounded much better than I had experienced before with Naim gear...
That's pretty much the question. I'm moving the hifi and swapping out bog standard distribution block for a higher quality (but non filtering) Furutech one that uses 10AWG internal wiring. Naim also recommend 10mm mains wiring if your sparky will do it. But their own PowerLines use just 4mm conductors. So do you use a PowerLine to the distribution block or something with a more substantial guage considering a PowerLine is optimised for connecting one device, not six.
Is there a way to turn off the amplifiers in order to use the Atom as a preamp only? Thanks for your help.
Nice little Naim event put on by the gents at Basically Sound. Fist up, was ND555 v NDS - usual descriptives I.e. a lifting of the veil etc. Very good and a decent step up but not enough for me to rush out and rob a bank v my NDS just yet. The Nd555 was partnered with 500 series and the Kanta 3. I do like the look of these speakers and if Focal continue to develop their speakers with Naim electronics then I suspect there is more to come. The Kanta 3’s added very little colour to the sound...
Has anyone tried Tellurium Q Silver speaker cables and wondered what you thought? Now I'm using Q black, what differences is there between these 2 models?
Am moving various bits of kit around the house, and am wondering about something truly contentious..... hesitate about asking, but hey, its Saturday and I'm sure all I'll get is helpful comments :-) Currently have 272/250/XPS DR in one room for actually listening to, and Uniti in adjacent room for more casual listening. Would like to move the Uniti elsewhere, and am wondering quite how much I'd compromise the sound if I fitted a decent switch to allow me to use one set of speakers in one...
I'm getting more and more interested in a pair of the larger active ATCs - probably SCM50 asl given size constraints. Does anyone have any recent experience with these? I'm thinking about replacing my 500DR/SL2. RJStaines i know that you have a recent pair of active 100s do you have an update as to how you're finding them? Having a dem in a week or two btw!
Hello everyone, in order to replace temporarily my loved CDS3, I'm wondering what used cdp (within 1000€) could represent a valid alternative, in line with the rest of gear. Currently my basket includes: rega saturn, linn ikemi, meridian g08, unison unico cd...what else? Please don't consider other naims in your advices. Thanks in advance, best
Question for any Electrical Whizz’s out there on the forum please: Monitoring the mains in my new house throughout today. The highest I’ve seen is 223V. Average is around 217 (just on the edge of the -6% allowable tolerance) but plenty of 211 - 215’s through the day with one flicker of 206! I will be calling my electricity supplier tomorrow. In the meantime, am I safe to keep powering/playing my 552, 555 and 500 PS’s as well as my Linn Radikal without risk of damage other than to the music...
Hi everyone I wanted to ask the friends of the forum this question: do you think it is right to replace the nac 282 with the most recent nac 272? my final is nap 250 dr if possible can you tell me the assembly between the two? (nap 250 with nac 272). thank you all
I’m setting up a naim 200 and 272 for the first time with my cinema speaks (monitor audio apex10’s)- new speakers are on the list! On the back of the power amp it gives a warning not to use anything other than a naim speaker plug. I can’t imagine it will damage it using normal banana plugs? any help would be great- I’d rather listen to music rather than more brexit tonight ????
My sitting/listening room is 11x22ft. The HiFi is currently set up across the width of the room. Should I set it up at one end and play the sound along the room - then I can move the sofa further away or closer to change the listening distance? And is it always best to aim for an equilateral triangle between the 2 speakers and the person, or does it just depend on the room and personal preference? Has anyone ever achieved great SQ far from equilaleral proportions?
Hi all, is there anybody bi-amping loudspeakers with a Supernait 2 and a NAP 200 dr? I would be very much interested in the advantages in listening of adding a NAP 200 dr to a Supernait 2, especially with PMC fact.8. Thank you all in advance for your replies.
MY ex (well one of them ) has a Naim Unitiqute but since she has moved, her Room is much larger. So an additionel power amplifier is in order I guess. Nap 100 is the Obvious I think. But I wonder if it is also possible to partner the Uniti qute with an older olive series 200 or something alike.
Hi, I'm new here and have searched the forums, but do not see any recent topics that answer my questions. I just purchased a NAP 500-DR, NAC N272, and plan on buying a 555PS-DR to power the 272. My question is about electrical recommendations. I have an electrician who will install a new, dedicated 20amp circuit. He will run a new line from the breaker box to my listening room. My questions: 1) should electrician use 10 gauge or 12 gauge wire? Is there a recommended brand wire? 2) do I...
Hi all I have heard it sad a few times that the sound presentation on the NAP 200 and 300 are very similar and just wondered how the other amps compare with one another? cheers
NOTE: This isn't about speaker brands, but a basic characteristic of speakers. I don't have NEARLY the experience listening to speakers that many of you do. So help me out here. I do love fantastic vocals, and something that attracted me to my current speakers (Devore Nines) right away (and some others I auditioned back in 2012) was the engaging and highly transparent (my language) midrange especially on female vocals (think Nora Jones, Holly Cole). The vocals really stand out in the sound...
