Living in a country where there is no Naim distributor for anything other than Muso and faced with a massive struggle to get Naim equipment, I've obviously voted for my sound of choice by the fact I go to the trouble. But this got me thinking, suppose Naim didn't exist, what brands would you shortlist to build a hifi? I think the question could be a bit of fun and informative as it may introduce people to things they had never heard of and it may be a question that gets asked for second...

My dear wife appears to have cleaned my equipment !! The clamp (or puck) from my CDX2 has disappeared. The clamp was the sort with 3 small rubber rings. However I do have another clamp which fits, but does not have the rubber rings. Does anyone know if there is any technical or audible reason that I cannot use my spare clamp?

is it to place a hicap next to a power amp on the same shelf? Currently enjoying my 62/160 but have a spare(serviced)140/hicap sitting in the cupboard. I fancy giving them a run-out but have absolutely nowhere to put the hicap other than by other source components. The 62 will be miles away from the power amp and hicap. If placing it next to the 140(with a couple of cms gap)will make the sound worse then i simply won't bother, thanks, Sister xx

I installed my ND555 last night. I have nothing new to add to the favorable comments that have already been made. However I do have a issue with the remote. The volume control and mute buitons do not work with my 552. All other functions work fine. I have rebooted everything and paired the remote with the ND555 with no success. Any ideas?

hi i currently have a nac 112 with my nap 180 but the pot has gone and so I’m sending it back for a refund, cymbiosis have kindly lent me a nac 102 to try out but I’m stuck on wether to get the 102 or maybe a 152xs instead... Does the olive have a different sound to the black? I can’t help but noticing that the olive 102 has more detail but it’s harsher at the top end where as the black 112 seems more controlled at the top end but not as detailed. Cheers!

Do you think Naim would ever consider such a beast? Surely the VC Beanies must be thinking all these posh apartment types don't want a wall full of boxes and wires, but feel inadequate talking to mates at the art gallery that they only spent £4k versus £200k. Aside from the mine is bigger than yours, Naim have shown with the Uniti new ground up "maybe" that you can achieve top line results without a bog box count or at least a compromise for those with a big wallet ...

Greetings! In the FAQ it’s mentioned that Naim changed the text size on the black Snaic cable. But nothing about which one is most recent... Is it big or small text on the Snaic manufactured today? Thanks!

Well, after eight years, my trusty Uniti, the original version, is off to the factory for a repair, service and upgrade to the 24-bit board. Unfortunately, mine was one of a batch that had faulty OLED displays that went dim after a period. It's almost impossible to read now, so it really does need to be repaired. Apparently, a batch of faulty displays is the problem. I understand the upgrade makes a significant difference. Does anyone have any experience of this? Dave

So have gone from a well run in 4 meter length of A5 to 6M new style with text in the middle, was mainly due to room setup, I wanted to move to Nova further away. Whilst they were being soldered I opted for the Chord Ohmic plugs at the speaker end, Naim plugs of course at the amp end. Overall a very different presentation, much more authoritative and more low level detail, a bit rough but assume many 100hrs of run in is required. So unsure if the 2m extra of new A5 is to thank of the Ohmic...

Hi Guys I must admit I’ve perhaps foolishly had a shot in the dark and bought a speaker without hearing it first. But it was such a bargain I figured it was worth a punt, they’re a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 230’s. Brand New for £199 when most HiFi dealers have them for between £349-£399, the guy at Richersounds said they have over 300 in their warehouse so it sounds like they’ve bought up all Whalfedales remaing stock of this now discontinued model. Hi. I'm a new member here. I am potentially looking at demoing a naim supernait2 and some suitable speakers and CD player. I'm not really into streaming. I note that Naim only make the one CD player. Is. that good enough for the supernait2? Or should I be looking out for a used cdx2? I would want a fairly recent one as would worry about reliability of an old player. I live just down the road from Naim dealer Billy Vee so would be getting the kit from there apart from the cd if I go the cdx2 ...

I'm considering updating the NAC172XS that currently front ends my NAP250.2 and QAcoustic Concept 40s. I accept the most obvious choice is a 272 but I'm wondering what alternatives could be considered. Perhaps a DAC/streamer and separate pre-amp. Tidal integration and streaming are important. Alternatively I could replace both the 172 and 250.2 with an all-in-one. Even more alternatively I could ditch the lot and get some KEF LS50 Wireless.....only joking.....I think..... I've got no idea...

Hi there, A simple question, but might not be easy to answer. If anyone knows of, or could link to a video that would probably do it. Word is that if you push the woofer of an SBL, and the seal is sound, it will move back slowly. How slowly? I'm bound to redo the seals in the end, but it's equally certain that I won't do it straight away. It'd be nice to have a rough idea how good it is or isn't before I listen to them. Also, does anyone have an active link to Gary's famous setup guide?

For the next step I would skip the 282 and go full on, 252/250 but the source is fixed in stone: CD5XS + DAC, I think this will still do 252/250 justice, will it? Box count next issue, I’ve HCDR/NAPSC, I think the SuperCap mandatory for 252/250? Heck, money!

Have done a search but no recent posts on Powerline Lite which I only just realised is a product out there. I have the 500 quid Powerline on DAC but these other components on stock mains leads: CD5XS, 200, 202, HCDR, NAPSC. As I’m off to the dealer for some cable re-terminations is it worth thinking about ONE more Powerline to go on what ? Or Powerline Lites on one or more components? As I’ve said just re-assembled kit after a while unused. Thanks.

I just sell my 202-200, now having CDX2- 282-HicapDR-NAPSC-180 (provisional) -Dynadio Contour S3.4 and waiting for 300. I have to admit that the 282 makes the difference, the amp relates more to room / loudspeaker. I found 282+180 olive better than 202-200. Both with NAPSC, HICAP-DR, decent power connection. But 202-200 works fine.

I have Kef LS50s and they are on top of a speaker stand at the moment. Blu tack is between the speaker and the stand and the stand is spiked through the carpet onto a concrete (block and beam) floor. I can feel the stand flex when I put my hand on top of it, and from what I understand the key criteria for stands is that they are a) rigid and b) non-resonant. Chaps..... apologies for asking (as I'm sure it's probably been asked before) but how do I connect up a Stageline to a flatcap2X. I'm using the flatcap to power a CD5X but want to use the second output to run the Stageline too. Amp being used is a Supernait 2. Thanks guys. Garry
