Once upon a time there was a tiny little mole that was born with cloth ears. All of the other moles pitied him because they were able to appreciate a wide variety of sounds. This tiny little mole asked them, why do you pity me when I can only hear what I hear? Have you not considered that this could be a blessing?

Anybody else watching the excellent Mum (Tuesday 10 pm BBC 2) it stars the brilliant Lesley Manville as the hapless Cathy the mum of the title and is written by the same guy who wrote the equally brilliant Him and Her. I think good sit coms are in short supply and this is definitely worth a look if your not already a convert.

[@mention:1566878603942595], hi Richard; a minor request; next time Hoopla are working on the forum, can someone request they change their spelling & grammar squiggly warning line. The spelling error line is well defined, but a correctly spelt word that is incorrectly used is not. See examples between Hoopla & Google - its the same as Google with MS

In 2013, I posed the question, will my pet wood pigeon survive the winter. http://forums.naimaudio.com/to...ve-the-winter?page=1 Well it did, in fact it’s survived a few winters, which is surprising considering its bottom beak is missing. Most mornings it sits on my roof or nearby tree waiting for me to come and feed it a large portion of peanuts. Today it was unable to feast on nuts, they get pushed down into the snow making them difficult to pick up. But it turned out OK in the end. Pigeon...

I've just completed a full rebuild (N.B. not electronic re-design) of the crossovers for my 30+ year old Spendor SP2s. This was done in two stages. The first was to replace the badly tarnished tin plated connectors and the old weedy internal wiring.

What a wonderful idea. It will really make things better. Why hasn’t someone thought of it earlier?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/201...erman-cities/9491680 I'm subjected daily to the emissions (and consequent health effects) from automobile tailpipes, as is everybody who lives in large towns or cities, or beside busy thoroughfares. Why do we put up with this? Is there a point in the future where automobile manufacturers are held to account in the same way that cigarette manufacturers have been?

So, being aware of the problems with excess plastic, I’m trying to reduce my usage of plastic without completely turning my life upside down so here’s my frustration... All the supermarkets claim to care about this issue but do nothing about it: why is it carrots, potatoes, etc. cost more sold loose than prepackaged? Why have they started to put things like pieces of ginger in pre packed plastic bags? Why can’t between the supermarkets and the manufacturers they do away with multi-packs? I...

News this morning: Maplin Electronics, general electronics parts & components stores around UK with 200+ stores & 2300 staff have gone into administration but will continue to trade through the process. They are blaming the slump in the pound, weak consumer confidence & withdrawal of credit insurance. The news clip says Maplin & the administrator PwC plan is to find a new owner. Its a shame, but I'm not surprised; last time I was in a store I noted a lot of stock & more...

OK I have had a bad week. I also know squit about any Winter Olympics sport but I feel justified in this rant because a) I have had a bad week and b) Mrs W totally agrees and she is a far, far nicer person than me. So. One of the UK snowboard skiers with maybe a hope of a medal falls in training and breaks her wrist. She soldiers on and the next day falls in training and fractures her heel, requiring surgery. Now this is portrayed as her being unluckily ‘robbed’ of her Olympic dream by the...

Very disappointed. Heading off early this morning to arrive in Bristol early - visiting for the first time. Suddenly on the M4 - “bang” - my glass sunroof shattered. Needless to say it was a slow journey home . Would be very interested to hear about what I missed. Especially any good - high end - system demos. Gavin

I've always wanted to build my own train track. As sad as it seems there's an odd fascination of being able to make something your own. This put a smile on my face: https://9gag.com/gag/aLjDM55?ref=9g.wsa.mw

Daughter is interested in taking photography beyond iPhone level. Would be interested in looking for a decent starter (or mid-level) digital SLR for her, but my geekiness stops at hifi and does not extend to cameras/lenses. Also a good book about digital photography might help. Good places to look for secondhand would also help (in/around London). Any help gratefully received, as ever.

It's just awful how people with more money than me spend it on expensive stuff and then discuss their stuff with other people who have more money than me about their own stuff. With pictures. It's all so unfair.

Just watched Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Sequel”. During a visit to Georgetown he was told by the Republican mayor that the town was 100% clean renewable energy. He said that he’d pursued this from a Republican standpoint, that is, that it was his responsibility to lower his constituents local taxes by using the cheapest source possible for local government usage. Of course, you can also do that for yourself. I’m sure there must be other companies doing this but Nordic just happens to be the...
