Just got dragged by my wife to watch this movie. oh dear, wish I had stayed at home and listened to music instead. It is simply the most stupid movie I have had the misfortune luck to see. I'm surprised the studio signed off on this as it is just stupid and mediocre. I've already watched Al Gore explain about the inconvenient truth? I'd rather watch that a 100 times over instead. The director of mother! needs to go take lessons in basic, really basic ideas on how to tell a story and keep...

I've received an email from my dealer (I'm in the US) outlining a price reduction in streamers through the end of the year. Quite substantial reductions in fact .. also reductions on the DAC-V1 and NAP100 .. clearing out streamer inventory for new models maybe or .... have you received similar offers from your dealer ? How much can I save? Quite a bit, actually! Naim has put together this unprecedented offer across theirentire streaming player product range: ND5 XS streamer, $2,995 (reg.

Yesterday I visited my dealer, and they were demoing the Nova. I've heard it with Neat Motive SX2 and SX3. Nothing sounded like Naim. The Nova is just the opposite of its dad, the SuperUniti: limpid, pleasing, detailed and full of 3D imaging. Gentle and jolly in character, mildly exuberant, devoid of all possible true-to-reality-ness, the one that made Naim so opinion-dividing and interesting. The Neats are just a pair of boxes with an expensive tweeter, and sound like if they were a call...

Concert at the Albert Hall. Almost all solo piano. Bloke next to me is sniffing and throat-clearing - literally - every 10 seconds. Eventually I can almost only hear his sniffing, and it's the music that's getting tuned out for me. During a round of applause, I lean over and say 'could you maybe just blow your nose? Your sniffing is spoiling my enjoyment of this." Reply: "I'm realy sorry. I have Tourrettes." Then his girlfriend chips in: "is he having a go at you?" (Which I didn't think I...

Dear Forum, As someone who has no music talent or experience to date, I've decided that instead of vegging out in front of the TV, I would try and learn to play some sort of musical instrument. So, I've bought a Hohner Special 20 C harmonica to see if I can learn to play it. I've also bought the Dummies for . . book and there are quite a few videos on You Tube covering the basics. However, are there any musicians on the forum that have any tips or advice to offer? Thanks Nigel

I just read an article briefly summarizing some research at NYU SoM. These scientists said: Your brain continues to function after death and you know when you are dead. This really screwed my day as I have always shared Epicurus's view "Death is nothing to us. When we exist, death is not; and when death exists, we are not." Now.... the state "I am dead" is a real possibility. It appears that death really is something. So.... F you science for ruining everything. The biological reductionist...

A couple of nights ago a late night 'visitor' kindly relieved us of the old iPod touch we use in our car. I'm considering options for a replacement. Something like an iPod Classic is the obvious choice but what other choices have I got? It needs to plug in via USB and have a pretty large capacity. I've tried USB sticks in the past but struggle with how they cope with random replay over a large choice of songs (in that it's not too random, and seem to re-start with exactly the same sequence).

What does Naim Audio mean to you? Based on a couple of years of pretty regular use of this forum I get the sense it is much more than just a brand to many of you and the fact that it is a company that makes fantastic sounding equipment is only part of it. So what is it that evokes such loyalty to a commercial brand and what is it about owning a Naim Audio HiFi that is so important to you?

The so called "Fall" feature update to Windows 10 version 1709 has arrived. Its a big one & its long install. Maybe best to leave it until you don't need your Laptop/PC such as overnight. As for me, I pressed the go button & now all all I can do is wait.

With suitable acknowledgements to Mr Wordsworth, the thread title really sums up my Sunday morning mood! I've just joined in a thread in the HiFi section which seems to revolve, as ever, around the topic of upgrading! It set me thinking, especially having just spent a (relative) fortune on a new set of cordless house phones to replace an old set which were functioning perfectly adequately. I then set off on a short mental ramble, taking in cars, hard landscaping, lounge furniture, computers...

All, Started getting a few random beeps from my smoke alarm last night. No problem, fitted another battery. Random beeps and screeches continued. Closer examination of the back revealed a manufacturer's sticker which reads: "Date for replacement: 18 September 2010". I'm going to B&Q to get another before work. Please check yours. Chris

Question 1... I use a pair of DIY cables to connect my 272 to my 300DR. Currently they are Prehkeytec 4 pin DIN -> Mogami W2549 -> Neutrik NC3MXX; with the cable wired in pseudo-balanced configuration. I intend to try building another pair of cables using Mogami W2497 in normal unbalanced configuration. My question is... Can anyone suggest better connectors than the Prehkeytec 4 pin DIN and Neutrik NC3MXX?

UK news this morning reports energy from offshore wind will be cheaper than from new nuclear power for the first time. Its apparently caught even its most optimistic supporters by surprise as the price of offshore wind energy has now halved in less than five years. It does however make me wonder why we don't use more of what we have available: Wiki shows 3rd Qtr 2016 the UK had 15031-MW on-line capacity of on+offshore power available (I expect in Sept 2017, its now higher) But looking at...

...that I don't live in a country of gun-crazed lunatics with short tempers. Why the hell are people allowed to buy semi-automatic weapons over the counter like a packet of sweets? Only the military should have such arms, not civilians. How many more massacres will there be before Americans get over their John Wayne complexes? steve

All these years, chasing the dream, high fidelity, reproducing the concert hall in my home. All those magazines, reviews, hifi shows, shop demos....... Am I glad nobody nowhere told me I must sit in front of the speakers on a concert hall seat. Two concerts, two nights in a row, not a hint of ergonomics or anthropmorhism, just numb b☆m. (The music was good)

There is a slight pun to that title, as arriving home yesterday I noticed the cable from the electrify metre on the outside wall is only about 2cm in diameter. This is for the entire large three bedroom house. 2cm! And that is an outside cable no doubt with weather protection. i doubt others’ houses aren’t much different or are they? Because as we are renovating this house right now, I feel I am not getting the electricity I could get and ultimately benefit audibly. Could and should a...

I've been troubled by a perceived harshness in the high mids from my system for some time now. I've tried moving the speakers (a bit, at least, my room isn't big enough to allow radical moves), eliminating toe in, and I've tried using makeshift sound absorbers at various points on the walls (heavy towels). I've gone back to stock everything in terms of cables, supports etc, I've done my best to ensure that no signal cables run too close or parallel to power cables. Basically all of the...

Hi all, I’ve phrased this question as a title as I wonder if anyone has ever had this issue - either way, that is them knocking on your door or you knocking on theirs. Hopefully none knocking the other out! Over my life I’ve had it three times. Once at university, once with a neighbour banging on my door screaming- my first Naim system 13 years ago, once in my last house as neighbour had a daughter with a baby sleeping. Now, my listening room is detached from neighbours so perfect!! How...

I have now come to understand why it is rated as one of life’s more stressful events - and I like to think I’m a fairly calm sort. We did the sensible thing and sold first...our purchaser wanted a 6 week entry date but we agreed an 8 week window. We hadn’t dared look as we didn’t want to emotionally invest until we were in a position to purchase. We found somewhere quite quickly. So tomorrow, 29th September was the agreed date for our sale & purchase. The informal ‘OK’ we’d had from our...

That pivotal moment of our being. I have long followed this story. Perhaps even since the beginning. Interesting how opinions change as to what really happened. What happened just before. What happened at a micrometorical level just after, and what's happening now as a result of it all. Even what will create another bang. I can't help but imagine, what with the theory of super black holes - those things that can suck in and stop time itself as we know it. That . That moment of expansion...

Seems everyone's taking a grisly stance against this new start up. What with old cockney cab drivers reaching for the direct a dial mobster to sort them out.. A global phenomenon, but I have yet to make use of it. Always getting ripped of by local taxi firms, but always nice personable interaction.. as you would expect. Chat about the weather and the state of the European Union and of course Trump. But if I can save some ££s and some time, then it's a good thing - yes ??
