Farewell Sir Roger, Aka Shawn Fynn, Lord Brett Sinclair, James Bond et al... According to those who knew him, one of the nicest guys in the movie business and whose combination of suave onscreen presence, deft eyebrow control and self deprecating humour won him a big fan in yours truly. And let's not forget his tireless work in later years for Unicef. Cheers to you Sir Roger, and thank you.
Prompted by the internet speed topic…I am considering a switch away from my long time broadband provider BT to Virgin. This will give me access to their fibre technology as well as an opportunity to ditch my landline (and lose the BT line rental charge). Our landline calls these days are mainly waster sales calls or the parents. All of my family have reasonable mobile contracts and make all of our calls using mobile phones. Has anyone else gone this route? Interested to hear pros and cons or...
Why Trumponomics won’t make America great again The impulsiveness and shallowness of America’s president threaten the economy as well as the rule of law DONALD TRUMP rules over Washington as if he were a king and the White House his court. His displays of dominance, his need to be the centre of attention and his impetuousness have a whiff of Henry VIII about them. Fortified by his belief that his extraordinary route to power is proof of the collective mediocrity of Congress, the bureaucracy...
Just read about the terrible accident involving Nicky while he was out cycling in Italy. Always one of my favourite riders, get well soon mate.
So if we don't have enough controversial topics here ... Swedish Prosecutors have ended their investigation into rape allegations made against Julian Assange. So was he the victim of abuse of procedure or has he abused international law for his own ends? Is he a hero for Wikileaks, or is he a narcissist who has released information to his own ends? (Of course he can be both) Was his reasoning for seeking sanctuary in Ecuadorian embassy valid; do you think he had reason to fear extradition...
Have any forumites been keeping abreast of Turkey over the recent months ?? I'm concerned we have a dictatorial state developing that apart from its involvement in Syria could further destabilize the region around the near east, east mediterranean & knock on effects inside all of europe. It seems they have no intention of continuing interest & playing the game needed to join the EU & IMO it looks like a move to a non-democratic state of some sort. Since the attempted coup last...
As its made the news headlines over the weekend; Do any of our forum IT experts have any advice, recommendations, tips or stories about www cyber attacks. I believe I'm safe because I take care to have my MS & more than one Internet security systems set to auto update, but is that enough. Then what about iPad & phones? The questions are not specifically for me, I'm asking on behalf of everyone.
50 Years on……. 50 years ago, I was doing what many 18 year olds are doing this week and over the next few weeks……………….their A-Levels. Mine were Pure Maths; Applied Maths; Physics and Chemistry. We also had a new subject called The Use of English. About 10 years ago I started a few “Brain Teaser” threads on this forum. One or two people complained that many of the so-called Brain Teasers were no more than A-Level maths dressed up. That was true of a few teasers, but most were real teasers,...
This ghastly "feature" of hoopla is really beginning to piss me off. I do travel a lot, and that does mean changing my time zone, although why anyone else would care is beyond me. The real problem is that I'm at home currently and EVERY SINGLE TIME I visit, it suggests I have flitted backwards and forwards to South Africa (from France, where I am), and IT GETS THE TIME IN BOTH PLACES WRONG ANYWAY. Please, pretty please with sugar on top, Richard, disable the goddamned thing.
After many many years I have finally sold my last Canon DSLR, a 7D, and all but one of my lenses which hopefully will go soon. Nothing wrong with Canon but realised when preparing to update the 7D for a 5D Mk 3 that it would be a waste of money. Over recent years my usage has dropped off hugely and when travelling abroad I've not taken the DSLR quite simply because it's too big and bulky, just as it was to use as a 'snap shot' camera on family days out. I also realised that I wasn't finding...

Now this wasn't something I had anticipated, but I have to admit that it might be a smart move on her part. I suspect that as Brexit hits home, the PM may have realised that her support would be likely to wane, but this move just might give her a couple of extra years to recover.
Does Scotland really need another Referendum on Independence ? Why is Sturgeon so intent on another vote? Is she desperate for Power?

Summer has come early in my neck of the woods. I saw the first barn swallow in mid March, OK its was migratory, but my local resident birds have been here since mid April. I saw a nest with a brooding bird today & thats early. I heard my first cuckoo was at half light dawn on 12th April, I have never heard one before 15th in the last 15 years. I've been seeing migratory swifts over the last week & yesterday (5th) the newly arrived residents where screaming around & considering...
Just watched an interview with Dianne Abbott re Labour's policing pledge which was without doubt the most incompetent performance I have ever seen from a senior politician. She started off saying that the 10,000 new officers they are proposing would cost £300,000, that's £30 a year which seems pretty poor for all that stress, then altered it to £80 million which is all of £8k per year. She also denied figures she's just quoted and bumbled her way through the whole interview. This is the lady...
I'm a bit of an agnostic when it comes to the Royals, but today's news that the Duke of Edinburgh is to retire from public life (he will be 96 next month) was quite sad I thought. Prince Philip is absolutely hilarious - his gaffes and gritty grumpiness; not to mention his "unique" sense of humour, have added to the gaiety of the nation over the years, and I for one will quite miss him. "Yak, yak, yak; come on, get a move on,” he shouted at the Queen back in 1994 when she was chatting to...
Dear Forum Well, I've been persuaded at work to do the C 2 C bike ride in a group of 12 or 13 people later in the summer. Unfortunately I'm horribly unfit at the moment, and my preparation so far consists of buying some Continental Town & Country tyres for my mountain bike! I'm going for a bike ride to see just how bad things are this morning, but I'm hoping that as we're doing the ride over 3 days, it won't be total purgatory! I've also got around 3 or 4 months to lose a bit of weight...
am going to spend time away from here -- have resigned from the beta program and also from the slack channels (for the core beta testers).
My 10 year old Okki Nokki stopped working and I was in the middle of digitising my record collection, however an email to them and a phone call the same day had the necessary part on its way. I think this was remarkable service considering the age of the RCM. A real pleasure to deal with and would heartily recommend the Okki Nokki as a great piece of kit with a great after sales service.
Has anybody here been forcefully removed from an aircraft due to overbooking or, as claimed by United, to make room for Crew to re-position ? Has anybody ever read the "small print" associated with their airline ticket ? Assuming we can take yesterday's events at face value, what sort of retribution would be appropriate for the passenger ?
Being off work at the moment, I go out for a walk nearly every day, for five or six miles. This takes me along various footpaths, through the fields, the woods and along the coast. I meet lots of dog owners, who nearly always control their dogs well, and either get them to shit at the side of the path or, if they do it in the middle will either pick it up or flick it to the side with a stick. All jolly good. But some people put it in a bag and either leave it at the side of the path or hang...
