Streaming Audio
Well its finally here in Roon. Would like to here impressions from Tidal users and MQA on the new Unitii Atom, Star and Nova. I ve been listening this evening and so far a bit unimpressed. Everything I have listened to sounds better from the 44.1 stream on my Atom. The MQA seems to have no life, restrained even and is a lot lower in volume. Vocals seem a lot lower in mix to. It does not make me tap my feet or sit up and take notice. Its well boring.
Hi, I am interested in trying to set up a new digital server, something I haven't done before. Would you mind sharing what yours actually is, please? Thank you, David
I read in last stereophile magazine a review of the aqvox se ethernet switch. This switch costs 800 euros ( around 750 GBP) and is an upgrade over the d-link switch. The reviewer could not detect a significative difference vs the 30 dollars d link. He used a merging nadac streaming player dac ( 13k). I think i saved my money.....
Hello everybody, I made some search on the forum but couldn't find the answer. I recently bought the Uniti Atom - great product - and chosed to test Tidal. I'm a longtime Spotify user but spending so much on an hi-fi system makes it worth considering Tidal. I discovered that while I'm able to choose music on Spotify from my iMac (connected via wi-fi, no network cable between the iMac and the Atom), I can't do the same using Tidal. It has to happen via the Naim App on iPhone or iPad. Did I...
So I get up in the morning, select R4 on the App on my iPad. After say 15 mins R4 will drop out (not exclusive to BBC though Jazz FM did it yesterday) and then when I go back to the App it decides to do its own thing and look for my devices again - of which I only have one. Urghhhhhhh!!
Searching for albums in Tidal isn’t clear to me. I generally just type in the artist and look under albums for the one I want. I’ve just searched for Michael Kiwanuka to play Love & Hate. There appears to be two identical versions of this. Are they different and how can I tell?
have had an NDX (latest firmware) for just over a year and today decided to edit the iradio presets. I was hoping it would be similar to editing presets on the mu so, but it seems not. I’ve managed to add stations but now want to delete a few and then order them in the sequence I want. I’ve consulted the manual but could make much sense of it. Also what are “added stations” ? The presets I’ve added don’t sen to appear here either, so I am wondering what is their purpose. Any help much...
I'm hoping someone can provide me with the answer. I've got a Synology NAS Drive 218j, oddly this appeared to be 'connected' to the Naim App, or at least i had access - now its disappeared in a puff of smoke. I understand that, I have to adjust something on the NAS Drive - but not entirely sure what. I was therefore wondering if some kind person could steer me in the right direction..... ideally, using easy to understand directions... Cheers.
Hi Guy's Hope this is the correct area to post this, I've just taken the plunge and ordered a Uniti Star, I wont get it until mid July but I'm keen to start ripping some of my CD's to an external HDD. My Question is if I use some PC software to rip some CD's to a USB HDD, can I then use that same drive in the Uniti Star and continue to rip more CD's using the Star? Will the file system already on the drive be compatible with the file system the Uniti Star will Create? is there a standard...
In the process of setting up my new system, I have chosen UnityCore as a ripper/ storage device, and put in a 4TB Samsung SSD. I have been interested in the performance of S/Pdif vs. LAN outputs. The system used for comparison was MSB Select II with built in renderer, connected as pre into Gryphon Antileon driving Pantheon speakers. S/Pdif cable was Naim DC1 BNC to RCA, switch was Hewlett Packard ProCurve 1410-8G, ethernet cables were Audioquest Cinnamon, and TeraGrand Cat7. We listened...
Is anybody using Roon? I just found out how to use it on my iMac with USB out to my Chord Dave, and then to my 272. It sounds quite good.
Hi, It seems I encounter yet an other problem: When I rip a cd on my computer with the aid of DBpoweramp or EAC some cds show coverart and metadata. But if I rip the same cd with my core. Either there is no coverart or metadata and in some cases neither both of them.Strange.
Since the various updates, i have noticed that the buffer on the App for both Musos will only ever reach 90% and often will flick between that and 70% on most radio stations. Anyone else? Hasn't really affected playback.....yet!
Hi Based on the positive forum reports, I'm looking to purchase a s/h Cisco 2960 but I'm confused by the various models. I have an option to buy a used Cisco 2960-8TC-L WS-C2960-8TC-L V03 which has been fully tested, factory reset and has the most up-to-date s/w installed. But there are some new old stock, unopened 2960G models suddenly available on the auction site. Any views of which one makes the most sense to purchase? I'd prefer to avoid having to do any set-up if possible. Thanks all.
Good morning, advice needed please as my knowledge is poor at best. I have a supernait1 and a recently serviced CD5 player connected to Dali epicon 2 speakers with tellurium ultra black speaker cable. I’m thinking of swapping the cd for a NS01- I can’t find much info online that answers my questions which are 1) Better audio from cd5 or from the ripped cds on the NS01 direct to SN1? 2) Does the NS01 connect wirelessly to my home internet so that I can connect the music stored on the NS01 to...
Hello everybody, Doy ou happen to understand why the tidal format on naim's app looks different and functions differently in comparison to streaming directly on tidal on smartphone? Can I stream directly from tidal w/out using naim's app?
Just searched The Original Soundtrack. Get different results depending upon if you use Ten CC, 10 CC, 10 cc or 10cc!
Hello all, Can you please help me. I'm using dbPoweramp to rip CD's to my Synology NAS to then stream using the inbuilt DSM package to a Nac272. The files are ripped as FLAC but when the files show on the streamer, they appear as WAV files? Is this correct? Similarly, I have some M4a files which were ripped pre me understanding about dbPoweramp and they also show as WAV files? I'd be grateful for any advice please. Thank you!
I just wonder (realising it is a bit of af a dumb question) :is there something to gain- in SQ that is-, to get a better router other then the standard router provided by my internet provider.
Dear all, Given the opportunity to buy 2nd hand, what would be more sensible? A 2009 ndac or - for the same money - a 2016 dac v1? In other words, are there problems with an older dac, caps etc to be expected? I would use it to better my Sonos but that will eventually be changed to something Naim...... Cheers Arnold
Hi Good people.. I Am confused now. I just ripped my first cd from a Naim Core. And everything seems to be ok. But at the end of the ripping stage it says Delete results or in Dutch resultaten wissen. The cd won"t eject automaticly either. Is there something wrong?
The continuing debate on Uniti Core vs Nas, or more accurately Nas vs Nas. Just to wade into the debate with my 2 pence worth as I have both Qnap dual core, 2 Bay Nas and single bay Uniti Core Nas. Preamble; System comprises Qnap and Uniti Core Nas, NAC-N272, NAP250 DR and PMC 20 24 speakers, (all auditioned before purchasing). I’m in my early 60’s so don’t hear much above 10k. My wife and I go to plenty of live venues both miked and un-miked. We want our music to remind us of the live...
I've a 12 year old 282 paired with an NDX. I have been reading about system automation which would enable me to control the volume of the 282 from the iPad application. I see the 3.5 jack remote out socket on the NDX, but the closest I can find on the 282 is a "Control RC5 in" phono socket. Are they the correct ports? If so I need a jack > phono lead. Thanks.
A couple weeks ago I upgraded to 4.6. Update was a little weird, though both UQ2 and app read 4.6.00. Is BSL 2.1.9 OK for UQ2 after update? (App ver 5.9.1) If it is not for placebo effect, streaming from NAS and Tidal -though only a smidge- sounds better now. I have better stereo separation, more defined bass and crisper highes. Downside is I need to turn the vol up more than I used to. No discernible change with Spotify and iRadio. What have your impressions been so far?
Dear all, Having recently re-entered the hifi world with just my Sonos player, I decided to start small with a 2nd hand Naim Nait5i and Sonus Faber Venere's. Next step was to rip all the cd's to a nas. Off course a NDX or similar with matching amp (202-200?) is on the wish-list and in the meantime I am reading this forum to gain some insight in the Naim world. Point is, the more I read about streaming with Naim, the more I am becoming hesitant. I cannot but wonder why Naim hasn't gone the...
