Streaming Audio

Does anyone have experience with the SMS - 200? I've been looking for a renderer to go with my 2Qute for a while now but as my MacBook sounds ok haven't rushed into anything. I've tried a Raspberry Pi and although it sounded better than my Mac >>2Qute and is incredible vfm it just didn't gel. The GCC I tried next was again fantastic vfm and really easy to use but sonically it wasn't for me. Is there any downside to using the max volume setting in the app? I just ran a quick listening 'test' at 70db with max set at 100, and again with max set at 50 (adjusting the volume output on the hardware to compensate). It seemed to sound better with max set at 100, almost sounding like an underpowered amp at 50. I like the idea of the max volume safety feature, but is the perceived sound difference in my head?

I have just updated to version 5.9 of the Naim app for apple devices on both my iPhone and iPad. Wow! At last the problem of it hanging between selections has been resolved. This has been a problem over the last couple of updates, but normal functionality seems to have been resolved. Great job, thanks.

Following my previous posts regarding streaming I have just received a phone call to say my ATOM has arrived from Naim, however I am now thinking I have made a serious error of judgement. All I wish to do is to rip, store and play my CD collection through my existing amp (Nait XS) and perhaps listen to internet radio. Last year we had the Proms streamed in a lossless flac format over the internet so how long will it be before DSD or something similar can be streamed live from the studio or the concert hall and we have 32, 64 or even higher bitrate streams beamed live to our living rooms?

In spite of being a nDAC user since about 4 years, it was only today that I read this document from the beginning to the end. What a clarity and what a pleasure! I think I’ve discovered a way but wish to consult the forum. I won’t break rules and post a link, but trust the IT literate amongst you know what I am referring to. If a CD is ripped on a PC into a *.cue file you can then decode into HDCD. This is with a free program which can be downloaded after search engine use. Very easy. Then save the tracks to your DOWNLOADS folder. I ask as this was so easy for me and I’m not a computer expert, and no one so far on the Naim forum has revealed this...

In IOS 10 you could stream m4a files located on the ipad to the Naim using Mconnect or Nero streaming player. There are other players but they all have the same problem. In IOS 11 you cannot stream them however if the files are MP3 files you can. You can stream m4a files if you put them in DropBox I did not what to do that either (30 gigs of m4a files). Trying to understand why audio level Ethernet cables are better than ordinary ones. They do sound better and I am completely amazed by this. I realized UDP is not error checking .... so is tidal using UDP (I think they are) and what about the stream from a NAS/Switch to say NDX?

I back my Qnap up by connecting a USB drive and pressing the blue button. When I first got it, a differential backup took very little time. A firmware update then changed things so that the backup took hours and hours. Anyway, there has been another update very recently, and when I backed up earlier today I noticed that it’s gone back to being really quick. This is very good news for me, so I thought I’d share it in case other Qnap users back up in the same way.

Hello! We have recently purchased a Qb and successfully linked and ran it via AirPlay / WiFi before Christmas. I downloaded the Naim app on my iPhone. All was well. The Qb was turned off at the mains over Christmas at some point. I am now struggling to get the Mac to see it. The Tidal app plays the same albums and tracks without problem and in full through my iphone. Yet the exact same AAC tracks played from the Naim Muso and Muso app Tidal plays exactly half of each track. All other features super. Sound super. But what is this sorcery?

When I select an album in the Naim app, the app tells me “14 tracks added”. However, it only plays the first track and then it stops. I then have to tick the second track, (“13 tracks added”) after which it stops again. And so on. I can never listen to an album without interruption. What is wrong with this app?

I see the latest compact 2960 switches boast powering by PoE, as one option. Is this desirable in the Hi-Fi context? The 2960 serving e.g. the NDX would not need a local power supply. In an office setting, or, indeed, in the Living Room, this reduces clutter. Is it a universal Good, or is there a sonic price to pay? Nick

An example of what my question is about: Suppose I'm listening to the Goldberg Variations. If I want to start listening from, say, Variation 16 onwards, how do I do it? If I tap on Variation 16, it only plays that track, then stops. I think a roundabout way would be to create a playlist and add tracks starting from the end, but is there a simpler way? hey all, what is the recommended length of speaker cable for unitiqute? and other than naca5, any other recommendations? also if i am not mistaken, in the uk atleast the unitiqute (as with others in the uniti series) ships with a special power cable. any idea if this is available in the usa? appreciate the clarification.

On my naim uniti nova works the deep sleep mode not properly most of the time after pressing the on off button more than 3 seconds the device switches to the standby mode. This is the case when operating both the device and the remotecontrol
