What is the latest music you downloaded, what resolution and from where?

Posted by: Stevee_S on 13 January 2014

With more music being downloaded I thought it might be interesting to see what forum members are buying and from where.

The news that HD Tracks are soon to open an online UK store means that more choice is going to be available to us. The variety and quality of downloadable music we can choose from is expanding, MP3 to 24bit studio Masters at 192kHz and beyond.

So what are you buying and downloading?

I bought what I believe is the album she released after this, a collection of Liszt pieces, today. Heard one of the pieces, the ballade #2 (played by someone else) on the radio earlier and thought it was superb, and de la Salle's albums are in the 50% off sale on Qobuz.

It sounds excellent on a preliminary listen. But I've read mixed reviews of her Chopin. I would ask what you think of it, but discussions like that appear rare in this thread.

I haven't yet heard this disc. But I also got the information about the bad review of this disc in Grammophone. I will form my own opinion. A different execution can sometimes be a revelation, and sometimes it's a useless gimmick.

I went for the more expensive high resolution version - from pro studiomasters I think...

Original 1998 UK double vinyl. Was there a better British album released in the 1990s? I can't think of one...

Maybe "Mish Mash" from Rocker's HiFi or "Dusk" from The The, but these three are the ones I that get played more then any other from that time and origin. All of them on Vinyl over here .

Ooops! Wrong thread! Two 12" vinyl discs would be a bit difficult to stream, unless you had very broad broadband!

Her Schumann disc was a letdown for me - she appeared to channel Grimaud, blustering her way through the Fantasie without subtlety or sense of momentum. Some of her earlier albums were allright, from memory.

cheers
