What is the latest music you downloaded, what resolution and from where?

With more music being downloaded I thought it might be interesting to see what forum members are buying and from where.

The news that HD Tracks are soon to open an online UK store means that more choice is going to be available to us. The variety and quality of downloadable music we can choose from is expanding, MP3 to 24bit studio Masters at 192kHz and beyond.

So what are you buying and downloading?

What is the file-format (or if CD bit-rate/fs) is of great interest to me. I very recently copied the first 100 or so CD's of mine to three file formats; WAV, FLAC & AAC (fdk) 96-144 Kb/s.

A fine desktop computer using a plain-jane LG internal CD/DVD drive using "db power amp" ripping program and playing back using "foobar 2000" -enabling back-to-back comparison of all files.

The WAV files are FAR superior to the others. in fact, so far the AAC files vs. FLAC is a 50/50 proposition as to which sounds better. The differences are quite obvious -particularly WAV.

(Granted this first listening evaluation was done yesterday lol, but true)

Moving on, what are the experiences here regarding file-format and resulting SQ ?

Most of us are storing the files and Flac and letting the files be transposed on the fly to WAV as this sounds best with Naim streamers. Mostly the higher bit files sound better, while recording also plays a big role.
