Deezer and Uniti

Posted by: Obsydian on 14 November 2017

Just realised Deezer do lossless which appeals to me as I use Android Auto allot meaning Spotify (320) or a not so neat Tidal workaround using my watch to control the app as opposed to andeoid Auto.

Anyway Set up Deezer Premium + but why does it not show up like Spotify and Tidal in the Naim app ?

Searched and Nova does support Deezer or it is only Bluetooth if so assume that will not be lossless ... ?

Have you tried serting up Deezer through the Chromecast input?

No i tend to leave the switched off as at the moment i just use Tidal and USB.

I assumed the Chromecast was inferior in terms of quality vs Tidal via the Naim app, or am i wrong ?

To be honest, I haven't tried it with a lossless source yet. Why not give it a try? My understanding is that native support for Tidal, and all the other web streams people might want in the future, is not really sustainable, so adding Chromecast allows access to a wider variety of streaming services. I doubt Naim would have implemented it if they were unhappy with the sound quality. Let us know what it's like if you try it.

I did try Chromecast with my first Atom/Nova (will try again tonight), thought it was not as good, but mindful that maybe somewhat subliminal based on native support being better.

So enabled Chromecast and enabled Deezer. Must admit until impressions prefer it to the Naim app, only quibble was a few second delay whilst casting sets up.

From there it's good as Deezer app to navigate. That said a few times the Naim app took over the casting but I could only fwd/back the Deezer app would let me change tracks but oddly it was the Naim app controlling so I had to use that.

Sound at first I thought it was surely as good Tidal, but after an hour or so A | B it was clear Tidal sounded more open, dynamic, but more detail and the soundtage reached further. Deezer in general sounded very good but slightly veiled.

Deezer at the moment is 99p a month for 3 months.

I'm still waiting for damn Spotify to go lossless as prefer the UI, Playlists and Android Auto execution is perfect whereas Deezer has a few irritating issues.

Anyway my thoughts Chromecast is not as good as Tidal via the Naim app.

Hi Obsydian, what is the range of music like on Deezer? I'm happy with Tidal as a source into the Naim streamers, but BMW have a very limited number of apps that integrate with the music system  in my MINI, Deezer is one, but Tidal isn't. So I might be tempted to move to Deezer via Chromecast into the Nova, although clunkily I'd need to rely on mutiroom arriving to get that down to the NDX in the main system. But if Deezer's catalogue is even more limited than Tidal's, that'd be a no-go.

Recall reading the catalogue is not on par with Tidal but that' most US orientated music by Jay Z and Co.

In my car with B&O system Deezer sounds better than Tidal (my workaround not via Android Auto) And even HiRes FLAC files on my mobile via the car.

Was looking do catalogue stats for you and stumbled across another article saying Deezer has gone MQA which I understood Naim do not support. Could that be the reason it' sounds good but not as good as native.

Will try sometime if I can cast Tidal.

EOINK forgot to say as mentioned Deezer Plus is on offer 99p a month foe the first three months.

It's the best in car for me quality wise, I have Tidal for the Nova and a Spotify family plan hoping they went lossless but tumbleweed.
