Multiroom & Party Mode

Posted by: Bryce Curdy on 27 March 2018

i have an Atom in my lounge and a Mu-so Qb in my bedroom.

Finally got around to playing around with Multiroom.  Seems to work well.  And then I read about Party Mode.  So I had two different tracks playing on the two streamers.  At the third press of the button (minor network issue I'm guessing) I got the Atom to play the Qb track (and put a big smile on my face I might add), but I didn't seem to have the option of the Atom as the master and playing it's track on the Qb.  Normal, a fault or senility?

This should be sorted out in the forthcoming firmware updates. Party Mode is simply multiroom with more than two rooms - at the touch of the button you can synchronise all the rooms to play the same music in time.

Hi Bryce - not senility. You have entirely reasonable expectations, especially as the official support video for the Atom under Playing Audio via Multiroom shows a Mu-so available for selection https://www.naimaudio.com/product/uniti-atom/support

A firmware update removed that option as it was so unreliable. The history is hard to discover for new users as it is lost in the "progress" update, now removed from the Streaming Audio Forum where most of the questions about this are asked, but still there in the Hi-Fi Corner as  https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...niti-progress-update

There you will find this from the Naim MD Trevor Wilson as long ago as 6th September 2017:

I am aware that questions are being asked on when multiroom will be enabled from the Uniti to the Mu-so range and our other networked players.  It is a priority for us and we are working as quickly as we can to ensure it is stable and the sound quality is where it should be.

I will update you as soon as I have more news.

Following this from Ryan Latham on 11th August 2017

Multiroom firmware has needed further improvements to increase stability. Although functioning well, releasing a feature that could have been better is not something we will do.  Extensive beta and test programmes are in progress and we will inform you as soon as an update with Mu-so multiroom functionality is available.  Please rest assured, this is a top priority.

Every week or so this bubbles up again to the surface, often angrily, with some Beta testers then putting their head above the parapet to say that an update should be coming "soon" but nothing, as yet, from anyone at Naim. As HungryHalibut says, new firmware updates are "expected" but, so far anyway, Naim have not said when. Progress update day always used to be Wednesday, but do not hold your breath!

Hi Bryce,

I think it is sorted.

As an experiment, I have just started my unitiqute2 (only had this since Monday, bought SH so thought i would check this out).

So, starting the Qute playing with Spotify (presumably the same for each source), the Qb then came up as an option to tick, by touching the Spotify logo in lower left hand corner (android app), then the four little boxes to the right of the volume slider, i now have the three volumes, QB,Qute and Group,  the Qb seemingly the slave as this was the ticked option.

Conversely, if you start the Naim app and play your QB first, the Qute (and assuming Atom as it is the same app) becomes the slave, having been the tick option, the Qute then becomes the slave.

I hope this makes sense, 5 mins out of a busy day!

Guy, no - the issue is with using the Atom or other new Uniti device, as the Multiroom master

Gents,

I'm assuming what i describe is how the new Uniti kit should work with the app.

Hope the firmware update comes soon...........

apologies for misleading, over exuberance on my part, having a new piece of kit and working out how to use it's features!

Just to clarify, Multiroom and Party Mode work correctly with the old Uniti range but not the new range?

Bryce, hard to fathom why but yes. The new Uniti range can Multiroom with each other but not as master with the other products.
