Nice Photos.

Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.

Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.

Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.

Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:

I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Nice picture Jamie, just shows you don't always need a full-spec DSLR to capture the atmosphere.

New Visitor

Not the clearest of pics but it was so dark I had to push everything up from the shot to the PP! Just opened my blinds this morning and there he was. Our eyes met and it was kind of "If you won't move, I won't move..."

Better to click and go to Flickr then select a larger size

It sure opens up nicely in flickr at the larger sizes.

Firstly I would like to say many thanks all those who have posted pictures on this thread and long may you continue to do so.  It is great to see many parts of the world seen through the eyes of others as well as things that are more local to us but many of us just don’t see.

However I have a query that is highlighted by Jamie’s recent post of a green woodpecker and Don’s subsequent post that it opens up nicely in flickr at the larger sizes.  I have seen this comment made on many occasions but whenever I open them in flickr they seem no different in quality to what I already consider to be excellent quality on the Forum.  This is the same for iPad and computer viewing.  Don’s comment about them “opening up nicely at the larger sizes” makes me think that I am missing something on fickr.  As I am not a subscriber to flickr I am assuming that those who are get more viewing options than the rest of us.  Is this true, or do I just need to go to specsavers?

I find them often improved some on Flickr and you do have a choice of scales and lightbox (black background) to view it in. It can just as easy to right click on pic in forum and 'view/zoom' or whatever your browser gives you though...

Thanks Jamie.  I have now found the light box on flickr and can see the larger sizes that Don referred to, and the clarity is indeed clearer on the larger size as can be seen by the detail in the fathers around the bill.  So no need to go specsavers unless they do something to correct my slight red/green colour blindness to confirm whether the tinge of red in the moustache is real or imagined.

Hi EJS,nice pic.I see you're an A99 owner.Maybe you know that many professional reviewers of this camera were wondering whether 30% of the light in the viewfinder and 70%  hiting the sensor was a working thing. What's your opinion?I'm an old Minolta owner and still have some nice lenses of it ,also, I use to have a Sony A450.I'm upgrading to an A900(used)or the new A99 full frame.

Thank you.

By going into flickr, you also get the original aspect ratio. This sometimes seems to be badly distorted in the Padded Cell. Or at least in my version of the Padded Cell !!

Hi Fabio,

Love the SLT system and the A99 is the best yet, I've traded in my entire nikon setup to help fund the A99, after using an a65 in south africa next to the nikons. The fixed mirror is a compromise and there is probably more noise than with competing cameras, but there are so many operational advantages, not to mention the most accurate focusing and metering systems I've seen yet. Video is seamless, and the avchd format is great for hobbyists.

Cheers, EJ

Here fishy fishy fishy... 2

By the way, I'm sure you meant this, but it's 30% of the light (about a half stop) diverted to the autofocus sensor; the rest passes the mirror and hits the image sensor, which is used for metering and feeding the EVF. The sensor compensates for the light loss, so the SLT has to increase the sensor's gain somewhat to achieve proper exposure.
