Nice Photos.

Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.

Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.

Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.

Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:

I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Is it just me, or does the picture above, re-posted by Kevin, have just a tad less "impact" than the original posted by Chalshus ?

I though this digital picture system was meant to be bit-perfect.

Perhaps we need a thread on digital imaging and whether mac's/pc's or Photoshop/Picaso etc/etc are better or worse ! You know the sort of discussion in the hi-fi corner about NDS v CD555 ?

No offence Kevin BTW !

Cheers

It does look marginally worse Don. I think the forum software must be slightly "lossy" (so when you re-post it loses more - a bit like dubbing tape). That's why I always link directly to my pics on Flickr, where the quality is better than on this forum.

Personally, the only photo software I use is Lightroom, and I try to use as little processing as possible (I really hate HDR - it has its uses, for example in night shots, but generally I think it makes pics look crap and people never seem to know when to stop).

I shoot in RAW (DNG) and publish directly to Flickr, again using Lightroom. I only rarely use Photoshop as it does more than I need, and things like Picasa, or Microsoft's or Flickr's own editing tools, are crap.

Lingual that is !

I think the image and the tag combined is what changes it from being a picture, to becoming a work of art

I'm the same Kevin. I 99% use Lightroom for most things. I only like photo-realistic HDR and take multiple RAW exposures on the rare occasion I think may be useful. Here's one of mine below on Flickr.
