Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.

Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.
Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:

I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Then tell us please.

(Pétrus 1982 retails for around £5000 a bottle.)
Blimey you could get a cheap interconnect for that money!
What is this?

im sure ive been to that sari sari store.....bit more stock in it now hahahah, where was this pic taken
In fact, I know that after trying these two, they switched instead to a case of the 1998 for dinner that night, and drank them all...
I had a similar problem with a pack of Carlsberg Special Brew, luckily I had a pack of Tennent's Super as backup.
I remember, Rod, attending a posh dinner in Vancouver sometime in the 1990s and having a bottle of (I think) '78 Petrus (ordered by our host, I hasten to say!) which was undrinkable. The management of the restaurant replaced it with a '61 Chateau Palmer and an '85 Lafite and both were fabulous.
Funnily enough, at L'Escargot, an old-school Soho restaurant frequented by media and advertising types, they have a few £1,000+ bottles on the wine list and a couple above £10,000. All come with a disclaimer saying that diners purchase at their own risk and that no refunds will be offered
The lens has a red ring, but is it a canon.

Hmm well, you are close but not sure I would call this a sari sari store as such but I guess you know what is in the bottles. This is a stand alone petrol station (or gas station) - you can see the red funnel above the 'coke' bottles. This in Nabas, Aklan, not far from Boracay.

Thanks Rod, interesting one. How fortunate to have a case of the 98 as a fall back position.
So how long might the left hand bottle have been upright for in its long life for the cork to dry out like that?
I have the feeling from your writing that the right hand bottle wasn't corked but has just gone over.
Chris
Sorry to hear that Rod. Have to admit when I saw the colour and clarity of the wine in the glass it was a bit of a concern.
I couldn't resist the '82 vintage (No Petrus though, sad to say) and finished off my last bottle a few years back - a Gruaud Larose - which was lovely. Wish I'd kept some for longer, although I do have some '86 vintage bottles that I'm wondering whether they will ever open up properly.
Nice!
Reminds me of this:

Thanks Richard and Christopher
The wine was definitely not corked (nor was this claimed). In fact it was still almost-drinkable, and a part of me wonders whether 30 year old wine just isn't for him, but as I said, even refunding two bottles of this will not wipe out the whole profit from even this one order. And he orders with us twice a year, so we will look after him! It's even more of a shame if a perfectly good bottle of Pétrus 1982 has been rendered rubbish by being opened, mistakenly dismissed as off, and then waited five weeks before anyone else tried it. But I don't want to dwell on that! The colour was as expected and the opacity might just be because it had literally just finished a road journey (never filtered obviously, and I don't think they even fine the wine at Pétrus either).
The other bottle's cork was knackered - dried out and stuck to the bottle. Impossible to know what went wrong, or whether it was bad storage during its life or a fissured cork in the first place. Or what the wine tasted like.
Good luck with the '86 Richard. A bit like 1975, I don't think they are ever going to get better now, but if there's one property that has real staying power it's Gruaud Larose for sure!
By the way if (very) old wine is your thing, then I can heartily recommend investing in one of these corkscrews: http://thedurand.com/- worth their weight in something, never fails.
