Nice Photos.

Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.
Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.
Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.
Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:
I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Why bother with the two feet George, and can't you simply select 'mono' on your pre?
A few trips to Tesco under them too I see.

NZ, especially the South Island, is incredibly scenic. Here's some more shots.
The Queenstown ferry
One of the many enormous blue lakes, not a soul in sight.
Milford Sound.
From the ocean side on a rare calm day. Captain Cook sailed past here three times without spotting the entrance.
One of the permanent waterfalls in the sound.
Mitre Peak.
And a couple for good measure.

I agree! I will be waiting for the D800(or whatever they call it)before replacing my D300.
Only buying FX lenses from now on as well....
Sandy
Sandy,
Agree with the FX preference. One thing about Nikon is that with the exception of the (admittedly ubiquitous) DX Nikkors, virtually all lenses ever made still work with all cameras. I sold the DX lens that came with my D70 when I sold the body. I never considered selling the lenses that I bought for my F5, even though my D300 is DX format. I now have accumulated glass that spans 14mm to 400mm and then goes to 800mm with the TC20E (In DX mode that's like 21mm to 1200mm). Whether I go to FX or not, they all still work. Canon changed horses and made a bunch of lenses obsolete; they don't work at all with their modern bodies. I'm glad I missed that - but it was luck, not prophecy/foresight/intelligence on my part.
But now I just need to develop the artistic and technical ability to create nice photos with all my hardware. This really is the tough bit - buying the stuff was easy. I don't know if I will ever just "see" the photos that others do.
Check out this guy.....

Did you happen to see his exhibition in Yaletown? (closed last weekend). I thought it stunning.
I still need to hear that LP12.

Nice pics Bazz. Looks like we did the exact same holiday on South Island. I thought Queenstown was best - a bit of civilisation and excitement.
Here's me and my 5 year old at the time taking in the view over Queenstown. I'll always remember when he said to me "Daddy, if Mummy was up here she would wet her pants". Very incisive for a 5 year old.
She did go up after to me and I am pleased to report she did not..... Here she is with my 7 year old at the time. It sure does look high - and it was.....
Off for a little jetboating - this is absolutely the tame part - the rest was fast down a canyon, inches from imminent death
And the other glacier - FOX

We've just spent a very nice couple of days at le Manoir Aux Qat'Saisons, Raymond Blanc's restaurant and hotel gaff in Oxfordshire. The house has lovely grounds with some excellent bronze statues scattered about (food's not bad either...)

Incidentally, I had a rather strange problem with my Panasonic Lumix. I switched it on, the lens partly emerged, made a funny noise and then retracted. When I attempted to turn it back on again it was completely dead; no response to anything. I'd fully charged the battery before going away.
When I got home I prepared to send it back under warranty, but thought I'd try charging the battery just in case. Bingo, it was working perfectly, and just to make sure I've taken oodles of snaps today with no problems. Very odd.

Lucky you! We had a meal there over 10 years ago, and still remember just how good it was. We stayed at a different local hotel at the time, would you recommend staying at Le Manoir (it is quite pricey!)? Sorry for going off topic, by the way. Perhaps email me, as I am also trying to co-ordinate our night out to see PT.
Cheers,
Mark

Lontano,
Stonking photos. I especially like the first one, but they're all quite remarkable.
Congratulations.

Thanks Winky - just browsing through one of my flickr sites looking at some of my Sydney photos so thought I would post a few.
Cheers

That's a nice lens. I like the look of the Nikon gear at the moment. They have a nice range of DSLR's. I've gone the Canon route myself.

It's expensive to change once you've gone down one path. This is not by accident, eh?

I am very happy with the Nikon gear (My first Nikon was my F5 which I bought with two nice lenses in 2000). Although I now almost exclusively shoot DX-format digital, all my lenses are full frame. This makes it easy to move back to full frame when the time is right (release of the D4?).
I know the Canon gear produces outstanding results, and the lenses are a bit less expensive , which would be nice.

Lontano,
Nice shots of Sydney. Were these HDR processed?

Winky,
What are your impressions of the 14-24? I've tried it on my D3 and while its clearly a great lens I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge of framing ultra wide-angle shots on my D3 or controlling the distortion. Maybe its easier on DX.
My last purchase was the 200F2 which is really quite remarkable, and fun.

Thanks - no, I did not use HDR. On the beach shots, a small amount of colour enhancement was done in post processing - turning up the volume as such. The beach shots were done at sunrise so the colours were already impressive that day and were 90 second exposures for the first two.
Harbour views again were straight shots, no post processing, 25 second exposures
A couple more - sunset on the Gold Coast.
