Nice Photos.

Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.

Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.

Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.

Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:

I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

"

??

Not for me.!"

Yeah, for me, I find that brighter bits particularly often show up brighter once placed in flickr. So, the original of the above looked fine in LR, PSE and Canon Image and Zoombrowser. Stick it on flickr and the lowered exposure parts 'painted' around the Zebra look very blotchy...

Well, you get a studio, black it out, arrange some lighting and then fetch the zebra...

Seriously, the portrait shots you refer to are usually a mix of careful lighting and then in the film days (and now digital) the use of dodge and burn techniques to under or over expose areas in the prints. E.G. make the dark/unwanted bits darker.

The Zebra is similar. I had the idea in my head when we visited Linton Zoo over the hols. Had to wait for an obliging Zebra to give me a suitable head shot, then it was a time consuming process of dropping the exposure and things around the Zebra in LR...It hasn't worked out quite perfectly due to the natural sun light on the LHS of his (her?) face not giving me sufficient separation around the nose IMO, but it works I think. Got around 7000 views in flickr so it had impact!

It is a cracking shot Jamie - 7000 hits is no mean feat!

Jamie,

I much prefer the first zebra which got only 53 views but in my mind it is a much more interesting and a better composed image. I am comfortable belonging to the tiny minority and feel sorry for the 6947 who missed the real good one.

Thanks Haim, as a piece of composition I prefer it too but as a project I like the head shot!

I notice you have an ftn in your flickr stream Jamie - my first intro to SLR shooting was with that camera and I still have it in pristine condition as I couldn't get away from my Ricoh 500G. G

Yes I bought it a little knackered off ebay a few weeks ago but almost mechanically sound. I think it cost me thirteen quid! That was a 'before' shot, need to put up an after one as I've now sorted it and it's good to go.  Now looks quite splendid.

No clouds

A oerfectly clear day. Lake Michigan steaming since the air temperature is 48F degrees colder. Captured at -14F with a windchill of -39F. The D200 works without a hitch, not me for sure.
