Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.
Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.
Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.
Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:
I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Ah, the smell of ink in the morning...!
Snaps from a recent print job. Not 'nice' pictures as such, but there's nice pictures in the pictures, if you get what I mean...!

Steve,
Must be fun to follow a book being born. Do you do only the printing part or are you involved in layout design as well as the binding?
I assume that you also get a chance to meet the photographer.
Regards,
Haim

Hi Haim,
Yeah, I did (and do) the design and layout and often, as in this case, the majority of the production required - so the hi-res scanning and retouching of the images for instance...
Yes, the on-press bit is enjoyable and nice to see things finally come into existence after what sometimes can be a very long journey, although it can often be a stressy week as well - in this case I was still designing the cover and a limited special edition on the laptop whilst the pages were on press ! - that wall is actually holding me up as I hadn't slept for about 36 hours !
I'm actually a photojournalist myself (well, not so much these days!) so I've been fortunate to mostly work with friends and colleagues from the business, a couple of which have been my photographic heroes, so has been a real honour in a few cases....It becomes an intense working relationship - these things are often like giving birth for the photographer concerned, seriously !
So, right now, I'm having a bit of chill time and don't want to see or hear about another photography book, ever again....!!
Best, Steve

Steve,
Here is a recent photography book of Chicago by Michael Wolf which I like a lot. His work, in large and small scales, was exhibited at Columbia College which helped sponsor the book.

Haim - Thanks for the link.
Interesting work. I knew some of his Hong Kong work, but had never seen the Chicago work...I like it myself too - I agree with the statement in the text, it really is Bladrunner - Rear Window ! I originally studied and practised for a while in Architecture, so along with the editorial aspect to the images I naturally relate to the architectural aspect - especially Chicago !
His special editions look nice also - always a nice thing to do. Although many publishers are cutting back in their general portfolio, with thought many are still (and increasing) special editions - they often fund the standard print run !
Thanks again, Steve.
