Nice Photos.

Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.
Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.
Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:
I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Ditto from me, its the best photo there.
Thanks a lot STEVEE_S!

You have my vote too - by far the most imaginative entry.

Embargo on announcing until tomorrow but thought I'd test the water on protocol here.

This voting business is a farce.
I entered a photo of my pet in my vet's Christmas pic competition for a bit of fun. If I was lucky enough to win, I was going to donate the prize to a PDSA centre. The idea was the pics would go on the vet's Facebook and then everyone would vote the best. Mine was doing very well with votes, as were a few others. Then suddenly, one entry received 100 votes over a couple of days, then another 100 or so. The person was just rallying around the Facebook accounts and getting everyone to vote on theirs. That's not fun, nor was it within the Christmas spirit. I sent a private message to the vet asking them to remove mine, as I didn't like this modern way of cheating to win. They agreed, scrapped the competition, started again with them deciding the winner. Decent vets.
Mine never won.

I never "vote" in these things. It's a ridiculous system. The photos should be judged.

I take your point and in an ideal world you'd be absolutely right, but in this instance, as in many others, the organizers are trying to drive traffic to their site so they actually want people to share on facebook etc... For them, awareness of their cause/product or whatever is the point of the exercise and they would be ill-served by a judge.
As it happens I thought Graeme's was the best photo so I voted for it.

Thank you very much for that. I never read anything about the competition before flicking in an entry on a twitter feed. I'd forgotten all about it and so was quite surprised to get the notification. I do agree with Winky & Count.D...but I am where I am now.
Interestingly, Rankin is doing a live-chat via The Guardian newspaper at 1:00 on Tuesday and the text mentions his involvement with this competition so I might quiz him on the issue.
Oh, and nice pic Haim!
G
I think Rankin would find more profound competition simply paging through any of the splendid pics posted on this very thread.
No disrespect to G - great capture - but this is a pics thread, not an elsewhere social media pulpit.

Shouting is an exaggeration but the wind blowing through the pine needles definitely made itself heard.
Late night, roof window.
Nice one Haim
Nice Jamie.
