Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.
Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.
Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:
I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Oh, and another one of these...

What lens?
Fuji 100-400 + a 1.4x!

Jamie, did you make sure to keep all the horizontal and vertical lines parallel?
Low ISO @ 100/200. F8 @ 1/250, ideally a tripod and remote/timer shutter release to prevent camera shake. If on tripod you may need to switch off any kind of anti shake.
It's a long way away and moving bloody fast but it is very bright so you don't need any kind of outrageous settings. You can always bracket for results if you want too.
The shot above was just a quick handheld from my garden but I've had sharper results with planning and tripod.
If on tripod and using rear screen, prepare to be amazed at how quickly it travels across the screen!
count.d posted:Jamie. just reduced the magenta a bit and it brightens it. What do you think?
Whilst it looks brighter, it loses atmosphere. Hang on a minute... The moon doesn't have any atmosphere. Great shot though.
Working the Line
I can't compete here for resolution, this from a hastily borrowed I-phone. Several barred owls have inhabited my backyard and surroundings for years. They seem to enjoy watching me do yard work. Maybe I scare up rodents while I'm working. Earlier this week I watched a parent deliver a squirrel to one offspring, tear it in half, then fly of to share the other half with another of its young roosted nearby. On summer nights I can sit on my porch and watch several owls capturing rodents, or possibly frogs, from the lawn. Part of the reason I do far less listening to music in summer.
Nice yard!
