Nice Photos.

Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.

Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.

Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.

Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:

I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Lovely image Tony...very nice.

Did you pull out the blue hues in photoshop/aperture etc to darken the sky?
Posted on: 28 October 2009 by tonym
Err..No Mat, just turned into Black & White in Photoshop Elements.

Should the sky be a bit darker then?
Posted on: 28 October 2009 by SC
I don't know, should it Tony...?!

Posted on: 28 October 2009 by Mat Cork
...it just looked a nice dramatic sky (often they're not, they've just had the blue darkened).

Nice remix there though SC.

So, did you just darken it all Steve, or something cleverer?! Smile

Bit of both mate - mostly a levels adjust, then some selective contrast adjust (via curves) painted in various areas...then a bit of 'colour' into the shadows and mids to give it a duo-tone feel...

£100 ? Big Grin

Seriously though, nothing fancy, just a bit of 'Danish School' (an expression in photojournalism from a few years back when the profession seemed flooded with Scandinavian photographers doing well - most of the pics looked the same and they were all doing the same trick - darken, whack up the contrast and most importantly, shooting on the angle and never having the camera straight..!! Roll Eyes)

I thought the original looked good but then the re-work looks fantastic

Steve, I think you maybe overdid it a little. The original had very good composition but needed a little drama but maybe a halfway house between the original and yours would have worked better? Just my two cents and only a personal opinion obviously.

I guess you went here aswell Derek.

No - the lake level is down too low to get closer than a 2 mile walk and both of us are a bit decrepit now.
Posted on: 31 October 2009 by Geoff P
I know what you mean Derek. The lake level was down when I was there and the walk was just about manageable.

Truly amazing part of the world - I'd love to go back - having survived this last bit of the trip...

Great pics ,but where in the world?

Southern Utah. Razz

Antelope Canyon, Northern AZ - just outside Page AZ - about 40feet below the surface in a Slot Canyon - ie one with a narrow opening at the top and an eroded lower level.

Oops, my first picture is from Antelope canyon too - I forgot it was just south of the Az state line.

Mine is of Rainbow Bridge which is off Lake Powell just inside Utah. Only acessible by boat and because of the lowering water levels in Lake Powell a quite strenuous hike as Derek says.

BTW it's BIG... the little green bushes at the foot of the arch are actually trees about 15 feet high.

The slot canyons are near Lake Powell. They are formed by flash flood water heavy with rock slurry eroding the soft sandstone walls. You are not allowed to visit them if there is the slightest chance of rain as a flash flood coming thru' under pressure would surely drown you.

This is another un-named canyon.
