Nice Photos.

Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.

Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.

Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.

Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:

I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Munch,

I took em on 19.10.2010 - Silay City, Philippines.

Flame,

Thanks. I'm no photographer but this event is so colourful it can make anyone look better than they are. There is a bigger and better parade there in October and I will go back just to see it.

Lovely pictures chaps!

Can anyone advise - my eyes aren't so good these days, but still in the range of the focus setup on the viewfinder (I use a Pentax K7). So all should be well, but I have problems getting nice sharp pictures, what might I be doing wrong as I assume the auto focus works OK. Smaller aperture - faster shutter speed, I'm only a novice and am reading some books on how to take better pictures. My wife says they are good but to me they are not as sharp as most of the ones I see on the forum - any advice.

Cheers

Hi there.

All the things you mentioned do help get sharper images (smaller aperture and faster shutter speed). A few more things to make images sharper:
1- Steady grip on camera. Hold your breath when you press the shutter release.
2- use vibration reduction except when using a tripod.
3- use a tripod for landscape photography

Keep in mind that some lenses are sharper than others. Even for a particular lens, it will be sharpest at a particular focal length and aperture. Most of the time the closer you are to the limits of aperture and zoom, the softer the images get.

Thanks Flame I hadn't realized that - so some lenses have a sweet spot, I must practice some more.

Actually Tim , all lenses have a sweet spot. On some lenses it is narrower than others. I think you don't have to worry about things too much and just go ahead and take more pictures. Think about every shot before you take it and then analyze the result once on the computer. You only get better by shooting more Smile

I have taken the plunge! After years of prevarication and dithering I walked into Grays of Westminster 4 minutes before they were due to close and bought a Nikon D700. An impulse buy on a scale that surprised even myself. I bought my daughter a D90 last year for her birthday and my son bought himself a D2x and a plethora of lenses, filters, speedlights and accessories but I remained faithful to my F90x. Despite letting my son and daughter use my camera when they were young and encouraged them to take photos with it whenever they wanted to, my son has been very reluctant to lend me his D2x. I will probably only ever manage to use about a tenth of the features on it but time will tell. My only reservation about using the camera is that it does not guarantee me taking better photos. I shall just save money in the long run by cutting down on processing costs of dull and uninspiring slides and photos...... I shall keep the old girl mind, she has been a faithful servant, very tolerant.....
