Nice Photos.

Most of us have taken one or two nice photos.

Here is my candidate as being almost quite good. In fact it is two painstakingly joined.

Taken up in the mountain at Skurdalsvatn in 2000.

Though this one takien in Warsaw in November 2006 is not bad:

I know there are several good photgraphers here, and it would be nice to see some of you best efforts if you feel inclined to share!

Wow! What a view.

Does anything live there?

We saw 2 eagles hovering above for less than a minute. But what surprised me was the huge number of flies that swarmed us while we cooked! How do those survive such a desert?!?!?!

Hope I am not boring you to death already, but I am rather excited with the images I brought back. Almost all of them were shot and processed as HDR images. I still wish I had my polarizing filter with me.

Flame,

That is stunning landscape, but I still prefer green to sand Smile

Man I'll take green over sand any day! What's unique about the photos is the vastness and the shapes of the rocks contrasting against the blue skies. This is all surrounded by hundreds of miles of "nothingess". Sand is rather depressing to me.

Flame,

I was always in love with the dunes and barren landscape outside of Dhahran. Reading Thesiger's Arabian Sands only reinforced that love. However, alcohol and laziness kept me in my villa in the mornings, and by the time I awoke the sand had kicked up. Oh well, my loss!

Tony, were you my neighbor?? I remember as a kid, I had a British neighbor who would listen to his hifi rather loud on weekend mornings and always looked rather "infused" with alcohol. I was living in Tamimi compound near of Rizayat compound. But judging from your line of work back then, you probably lived in Jadawel or British Aerospace. Just guessing Smile

Blimey!! As a bachelor I lived on the legendary Al Gosaibi compound, and as a married/accompanied on Golden Belt (formerly Al Mira)compound. I did stay in Rezayat apartments for one night when I first arrived in '91. Small world.

Small world indeed. I used to regularly visit the Golden Belt Compound in the period between 1998 and 2002. We might have passed by each other at some point. Who knows Smile

Great photos Flame. I presume that's a natural rock tower in the background of your last shot?

Yes it is all natural. And the best part of the trip was that we were an hour by car from the nearest mobile/GSM signal Smile

Flame,

We were on Golden Belt from 96-99! I assume you visited one of the watering holes there? We lived in one of the villas opposite the tennis courts, next to a villa/bar/brothel (so I heard....).

Tony

PS. Apologies to others for deviating a little here!

I remember the recreation center and the restaurant around the pool. Used to visit a Lebanese friend that lived there.

Nap-ster,

Striking image. It is amazing that the web remained intact with all the added weight.
